The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently revealed some interesting statistics about Americans and breast surgery. According to the ASPS, the most requested plastic surgery in America is breast enhancement surgery. More than 296,203 women felt like they needed larger breasts in 2010. Statistics also show that more than 170,000 women underwent breast reduction and lift surgery. That’s a lot of women changing their breast size.

While the typical breast reduction and lift surgery is performed to offer relief from the pain cause by having overly large breasts, breast enhancement surgery happens for cosmetic and self confidence issues or for women who have undergone a mastectomy.

Besides the decision of breast enlargement, there were also a large number of patients who decided to remove their implants. According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons, approximately 21,700 implant removal surgeries took place in 2010. That was an increase of 9 percent from 2009, but a drop of 47 percent since 2000.

Overall there were more than 13 millions cosmetic procedures in 2010 including breast implants, and breast reduction and lift surgery. the plastic surgery statistics reveal that cosmetic surgery is becoming a more popular trend among women of all ages. while patients aged 40 to 54 still accounted for nearly half of all procedures in 2010, an increasing number of older people are getting work done too. it was reported that 3.3 million people over age 55 received some sort of cosmetic treatment last year, which was up 4 percent from 2009.

Even though women are changing their cup size more than than they were 10 years ago, it seems that we are less willing to undergo other invasive surgeries. Forget nose jobs and liposuction. while they may have been popular during the last decade, the current trend is breast surgery and wrinkle treatments. According to the report doctors performed 43 percent fewer liposuctions than they did in 2000, while nose jobs decreased by 35 percent and face-lifts declined by 16 percent.

One treatment that has taken off in the past decade? Botox. in 2010 more than 5.4 million people received injections, a whopping increase of 584 percent from the year 2000. Wrinkle fillers and laser hair removal also spiked in popularity.
