Lance Armstrong stripped of Tour de France titles, banned from cycling

the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency erased 14 years of Lance Armstrong’s career Friday — including his record seven Tour de France titles — and banned him for life from the sport that made him a hero to millions of cancer survivors after concluding he used banned substances.

USADA said it expected cycling’s governing body to take similar action, but the International Cycling Union was measured in its response, saying it first wanted a full explanation on why Armstrong should relinquish Tour titles he won from 1999 through 2005.

The Amaury Sport Organization that runs the world’s most prestigious cycling race said it would not comment until hearing from the UCI and USADA, which contends the cycling body is bound by the World Anti-Doping Code to strip Armstrong of one of the most incredible achievements in sports.

Armstrong, who retired a year ago, said Thursday that he would no longer challenge USADA and declined to exercise his last option by entering arbitration. He denied again that he ever took banned substances in his career, calling USADA’s investigation a “witch hunt” without a shred of physical evidence.

He is now officially a drug cheat in the eyes of his nation’s doping agency.

“Any time we have overwhelming proof of doping, our mandate is to initiate the case through the process and see it to conclusion as was done in this case,” said USADA chief executive Travis Tygart, who couched the investigation as a battle against a “win-at-all-cost culture.”

Tygart said the UCI was “bound to recognize our decision and impose it.”

“They have no choice but to strip the titles under the code,” he said.

The UCI and USADA have engaged in a turf war over who should prosecute allegations against Armstrong. the UCI event backed Armstrong’s failed legal challenge to USADA’s authority, and it cited the same World Anti-Doping Code in saying that it wanted to hear more from the American agency.

“As USADA has claimed jurisdiction in the case the UCI expects that it will issue a reasoned decision” explaining the action taken, the Switzerland-based organization said in a statement. it said legal procedures obliged USADA to fulfill this demand in cases “where no hearing occurs.”

The International Olympic Committee said Friday it will await decisions by USADA and UCI before taking any steps against Armstrong, who won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Games. Besides the disqualifications, Armstrong will forfeit any medals, winnings, points and prizes, USADA said, but the lost titles that now dominate his legacy.

Every one of Armstrong’s competitive races from Aug. 1, 1998, has been vacated by USADA, established in 2000 as the official anti-doping agency for Olympic sports in the United States. Since Armstrong raced in UCI-sanctioned events, he was subject to international drug rules enforced in the U.S. by USADA. its staff joined a federal criminal investigation of Armstrong that ended earlier this year with no charges being filed.

USADA, which announced its investigation in June, said its evidence came from more than a dozen witnesses “who agreed to testify and provide evidence about their firsthand experience and/or knowledge of the doping activity of those involved in the USPS conspiracy,” a reference to Armstrong’s former U.S. Postal Service cycling team.

The unidentified witnesses said they knew or had been told by Armstrong himself that he had “used EPO, blood transfusions, testosterone and cortisone” from before 1998 through 2005, and that he had previously used EPO, testosterone and Human Growth Hormone through 1996, USADA said. Armstrong also allegedly handed out doping products and encouraged banned methods — and even used “blood manipulation including EPO or blood transfusions” during his 2009 comeback race on the Tour.

In all, USADA said up to 10 former Armstrong teammates were set to testify against him. Included in the case were emails sent by Floyd Landis, who was stripped of the 2006 Tour de France title for doping, describing an elaborate doping program on Armstrong’s Postal Service teams, and Tyler Hamilton’s interview with “60 Minutes” claiming had personal knowledge of Armstrong doping.

Had Armstrong chosen to pursue arbitration, USADA said, all the evidence would have been available for him to challenge.

“He chose not to do this knowing these sanctions would immediately be put into place,” the statement said.

The decision surprised riders around the world.

At the Spanish Vuelta, riders including former rival and teammate Alberto Contador joined ex-Armstrong coach Johan Bruyneel in offering support. another former rival, Filippo Simeoni, wondered why Armstrong dropped his fight..

“It leaves me a bit perplexed, because someone like him, with all the fame and popularity and millions of dollars he has, should fight to the end if he’s innocent,” Simeoni said. “But I guess he realized it was a useless fight and the evidence USADA had was too great.”

At the USA Pro Challenge in Breckenridge, Colo., longtime friend Jim Ochowicz said he supported Armstrong’s decision.

“He has done so much for our sport over the years and I am sad at what has transpired,” he said. “I think he has earned every victory he’s had.”

Bruyneel said Armstrong was the victim of an “unjust” legal case.

“Lance has never withdrawn from a fair fight in his life so his decision today underlines what an unjust process this has been,” Bruyneel wrote on his personal website. the Belgian, who manages the Radioshack Nissan-Trek team, has his own legal battle with USADA. He has opted for arbitration to fight charges that he led doping programs for Armstrong’s teams.

Armstrong clearly knew his legacy would be blemished by his decision. But he said he has grown tired of defending himself in a seemingly never-ending fight against charges that he doped while piling up more Tour victories than anyone ever. He has consistently pointed to the hundreds of drug tests that he passed as proof of his innocence during his extraordinary run of Tour titles.

“There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, ‘Enough is enough.’ For me, that time is now,” Armstrong said Thursday night, hours before the deadline to enter arbitration.

“Today I turn the page. I will no longer address this issue, regardless of the circumstances,” he said. “I will commit myself to the work I began before ever winning a single Tour de France title: serving people and families affected by cancer, especially those in underserved communities.”

Although he had already been crowned a world champion and won individual stages at the Tour de France, Armstrong was still relatively unknown in the U.S. until he won the epic race for the first time in 1999. it was the ultimate comeback tale: when diagnosed with cancer, doctors had given him less than a 50 percent chance of survival before surgery and brutal cycles of chemotherapy saved his life.

Armstrong’s riveting victories, his work for cancer awareness and his gossip-page romances with rocker Sheryl Crow, fashion designer Tory Burch and actress Kate Hudson made him a figure who transcended sports.

His dominance of the Tour de France elevated the sport’s popularity in the U.S. to unprecedented levels. His story and success helped sell millions of the “Livestrong” plastic yellow wrist bracelets, and enabled him to enlist lawmakers and global policymakers to promote cancer awareness and research. His Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised nearly $500 million since its founding in 1997.

Foundation officials said they remained “proud” of Armstrong and had received hundreds of messages of support from donors, partners and supporters since his announcement. among them was Nike inc., which said it planned to continue supporting Armstrong and the foundation.

“Lance has stated his innocence and has been unwavering on this position,” the company said.

American Century Investments, another partner, said: “While the actions taken against Lance are unfortunate, we understand his decision to drop his challenge to the USADA charges. the USADA may sanction Lance and attempt to strip his titles, but no one can take away what he’s done for the 28 million people around the world living with cancer.”

Questions surfaced even as Armstrong was on his way to his first Tour victory. He was leading the 1999 race when a trace amount of a banned anti-inflammatory corticosteroid was found in his urine; cycling officials said he was authorized to use a small amount of a cream to treat saddle sores.

After Armstrong’s second victory in 2000, French judicial officials investigated his Postal Service team for drug use. that investigation ended with no charges, but the allegations kept coming.

Others close to Armstrong were caught up in the investigations, too: Bruyneel, the coach of Armstrong’s teams, and three members of the medical staff and a consultant were also charged. Bruyneel is taking his case to arbitration, while two medical team staffers and consulting doctor Michele Ferrari didn’t formally contest the charges and were issued lifetime bans by USADA. Ferrari later said he was innocent.

Armstrong was criticized for his relationship with Ferrari, who was banned by Italian authorities over doping charges in 2002. Former personal and team assistants accused Armstrong of having steroids in an apartment in Spain and disposing of syringes that were used for injections.

In 2004, a Dallas-based promotions company initially refused to pay him a $5 million bonus for winning his sixth Tour de France because it wanted to investigate allegations raised by media in Europe. Testimony in that case included former teammate Frankie Andreu and his wife, Betsy, saying Armstrong told doctors during his 1996 cancer treatments that he had taken a cornucopia of steroids and performance-enhancing drugs.

Armstrong retired in 2005 and almost immediately considered a comeback before deciding to stay on the sidelines — in part because he didn’t want to keep answering doping questions. Three years later, Armstrong was 36 and itching to ride again. He came back to finish third in the 2009 Tour de France.

Armstrong raced again in 2010 under the cloud of the federal investigation. Early last year, he quit for good, making a brief return as a triathlete until the USADA investigation shut him down.

“He had a right to contest the charges,” WADA President John Fahey said. “He chose not to. the simple fact is that his refusal to examine the evidence means the charges had substance in them.”

Virtual Breast Cosmetic Surgery

There are just as much preparations needed when virtual breast surgery is being considered although the procedure is still done physically.

There are medical forms that are required from the patient and other necessary documentation requirements before the patient meets up with the cosmetic surgeon virtually.after which a digital photograph will be required from the patient showing their full-length body in specific angles, as specified by the cosmetic surgeon. from these angles, the physician will be able to do some morphing and enhancing the photo as imagined when the procedure has already been done with the help of virtual breast surgery. A CT and MRI scan would also be needed to create the virtual replica of the patient.some patients are provided a step-by-step video guide throughout the process so that the patients will be providing the necessary information accurately so that proper evaluation of the virtual breast surgery will be made. the actual breast surgical procedure would however still require the patient to have an in-person consultation with his/her cosmetic surgeon.

Simulation of surgical procedures is most often used by surgeons to practice the most dangerous procedures before the actual thing is to be done on a real patient.  and virtual breast surgery is not an outcast in the virtual reality world of surgical procedures. if such virtual surgery is not to be opted, the best alternative would be a photographic image of how the patient would look like after the breast surgery, be it an augmentation or a reduction.

A virtual breast surgery’s cost is dependent on varied factors like the region where the procedure is done, the surgeon who will do the procedure, and the expertise that he/she has, or the kind of facility where it is done.

  1. With the help of the CT and MRI scans of the patient, a replica is made in the virtual environment. the cosmetic surgeon can then practice the virtual breast surgery procedure on the replica a couple of times before the actual surgery is performed.
  2. There is no more need for cadavers or any kind of animal to practice the surgery on them.
  3. Through the simulation on a 3-dimensional screen, an intensive training can be done interacting with the body’s organs as if a true surgery is actually being performed.
  4. Sample complications may also be introduced during the virtual breast surgery so that the surgeon can properly prepare for the actual procedure.
  5. Results will be shown on the simulator and can be effectively evaluated by the surgeon, carrying out a surgical plan along the process.
  6. With rigid training and practice, errors are least expected and the surgeon comes more prepared for the actual breast surgery.

A virtual process is a surgeon’s preparation for the actual procedure. there are no disadvantages with virtual breast surgery being performed on virtual replica of patients. there is actually nothing lost in this procedure but everything gained. after all this procedure is just done in the virtual world, if the patient dislikes the idea of having her photographic body image being practiced on, then things should be discussed with the surgeon. What Do I need to Do after Virtual Breast Surgery?

Virtual breast surgery eliminates the need for cadavers. gone are the days that you would see cosmetic surgeons doing their practice sessions in the morgue, repeatedly doing the surgery until they reach perfection. it is like doing the procedure on flight simulators, doing the surgery process in a 3D model of the patient. after the surgeon performs the simulated surgery on the virtual patient, the physician is given an actual feel of how the surgery will go through and how the patient will look like after the breast surgery.

The patient and the surgeon will go through things together, openly discussing the procedure and the surgical plan that the surgeon has prepared in the course of the virtual surgery. if errors were detected along the way, the surgeon has perfected it over the entire process of the virtual breast surgery.

KFVS12 News & Weather Cape Girardeau, Carbondale, Poplar BluffLos Angeles bullpen falters in loss to Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – With two chances to close out their main rival, Ernesto Frieri and a weary Los Angeles bullpen couldn't finish the deal.

Elvis Andrus had a game-ending two-run single in the 10th inning, and the Texas Rangers rallied from six runs down to beat the Angels 11-10 Wednesday night.

Los Angeles won the first two games of the four-game series by a combined 21-10 and appeared on its way to making it three in a row.

Texas was down 7-1 in the fifth before rallying to force extra innings. The Angels scored three in the 10th inning to take a 10-7 lead before the wild finish to a game that lasted 4 hours, 1 minute.

The Rangers extended their lead in the American League West to four games over the Angels and 4 1/2 over third-place Oakland.

“We took advantage of some things early and we had the lead.” Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said. “Our bullpen unraveled a bit. Those guys have pitched a lot of innings.”

Frieri hadn't blown a save opportunity in 13 chances before giving up Ian Kinsler's home run in the ninth that tied it at 7.

In the 10th, Frieri allowed Nelson Cruz's homer, and two other base runners reached before Jason Isringhausen (3-1) came into the game.

The short-handed Angels bullpen is without lefty Scott Downs, who went on the disabled list Tuesday with a shoulder strain.

“You can chalk it up to good hitting and bad pitching.” Isringhausen said.

Cruz homered, and Mitch Moreland singled off Isringhausen to bring the Rangers to 10-9. With the bases loaded, Andrus drove a single past third baseman Alberto Callaspo to set off a wild celebration near second base.

“Our mentality was to win no matter what,” said Andrus, who went 4 for 6 with three RBIs. “It was a great game for us.”

Albert Pujols connected twice for his second straight multihomer game. His second home run, a two-run shot in the 10th, was one of four long balls hit between the two teams in the final two innings.

It was Pujols' 44th multihomer run of his career, third-most among active players. He had never had consecutive multihomer games in the regular season.

Chris Iannetta also homered in the 10th for the Angels.

Joe Nathan (2-3) gave up Iannetta's homer on a full-count pitch and Pujols' two-run drive but still earned the win.

“You have to give those guys credit,” Scioscia said. “But we'll bounce back.”

New acquisition Ryan Dempster will take the mound for the Rangers on Thursday night as they look to split the series against their rivals. He will face left-hander C.J. Wilson, who left Texas as a free agent in the offseason.

“It was a great team effort from top to bottom,” Texas' Michael Young said. “It was definitely a great win for us.”

Pujols had four RBIs to give him 1,400 for his career. Hunter and Callaspo each added two RBIs for Los Angeles.

Yu Darvish started for the Rangers and equaled his season high by allowing seven runs and walking six over five innings.

Garrett Richards, who was starting in place of an ailing Dan Haren, gave up five runs and nine hits before he was chased with two outs in the sixth.

The Angels led 7-1 before the Rangers rallied with four in the fifth and one in the eighth.

David Murphy, who was 3 for 3 and reached base five times, had an RBI single in the eighth that closed the gap to 7-6.

This was Texas' largest comeback since a six-run rally Aug. 13, 2010, against the Red Sox.

The Angels scored six runs on only two hits in their third-inning outburst. they benefited from four walks, an error and Darvish's poor throw on a fielder's choice as 10 men came to the plate.

Pujols lined a 1-1 pitch from Darvish into the Angels bullpen – the first hit for Los Angeles in the game – to make it 4-0.

After two more walks in the third, Callaspo doubled in a pair to make it 6-0.

NOTES: Rangers right-hander Neftali Feliz underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday. Team physician Dr. Keith Meister performed the operation. … With temperatures over 100 degrees, the Angels limited their pregame work outside. Scioscia said his players only spent about 25 minutes outside taking fielding and batting practice, which is about 20 minutes less than average. … after three games batting fifth, Rangers CF Josh Hamilton was moved in the third slot Wednesday and went 0 for 5 with two strikeouts.

What’s Up With Bruce Jenner’s Face? A Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Weighs In

Last night, Bruce Jenner was on Andy Cohen‘s Watch What Happens Live to talk about the Olympics and compete against Amy Sedaris in various Cohen-invented categories like “ball sack” and “awkward hug.” he also made an inappropriate crack about picking up “girls with big asses,” i.e. his wife and step-daughters. What the hell?

In honor of his appearance, we decided to address a question that’s been plaguing us for quite some time: what, exactly, is going on with that man’s face? His skin is stretched tighter than one of the soccer balls he pulled out of that sack, and he’s veering dangerously close to getting that feline look that people get when they’ve had too many cosmetic procedures done. (See also: Jocelyn Wildenstein, a.k.a. “Cat Woman.”) How could any rational human who once looked like this:

End up making himself look like this?

We contacted triple board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Chaffoo and showed him some photos of Jenner, and he was able to answer all of our questions. Read and learn.

Jamie Peck: What kind of procedures do you think Bruce Jenner has had done? And where did he go wrong?

Richard Chaffoo: It appears that he has undergone a complete face lift but he looks rather operated on and unnatural looking. His face seems stretched and somewhat distorted and also asymetrical. There is some swelling under the chin more on the left side than right. In addition, his face has taken on a somewhat feminine appearance which happens when men have excessive and repeated facial plastic surgery. Also, the natural ear landmark called the tragus or cartilage prominence in front of the ear appears distorted or lost in this photo.

JP: How would someone go about correcting this?

RC: Unfortunately, there is no simple fix for this problem in many patients. if they have been stretched too tight, then it is a matter of time until the facial tissues relax and have a more natural appearance. This can take several years, though.

JP: What do you think is going on with his hair?

RC: It does appear that he has significant thinning and actual hair loss. You can notice that one can see his scalp along the frontal hairline. Normally, you should not really see the skin or scalp in the frontal area where the hairline is usually quite dense.

JP: What would you do about it?

RC: It is now possible to restore such a hairline using a revolutionary hair replacement surgery system called Neograft. This device extracts hairs from the back of the head where the hair is quite dense and implants it into areas of hair thinning or hair loss. The hair which grows is permanent and looks entirely natural. This system replaces the old technique which created a hairline that looked like a doll’s head or “corn row” appearance. It really does recreate one’s hairline to its original look and density. Also, the area from which the hair is removed heals naturally without a scar and no need for stitches.

JP: good to know!

What’s Up With Bruce Jenner’s Face? A Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Weighs In

Improvements in cosmetic surgery around the eyes benefit patients – Health – Northwest Military – Ft Lewis Ranger – Military News, Events & Community

There was a time when going in for what’s commonly referred to as an eye-tuck required the patient to go under the knife and spend a couple of weeks afterward looking like the loser in a fistfight.

“Thanks to the laser, it’s now a much easier out-patient surgery,” said Dr. David Pratt of Clarus Eye Centre. “It’s much quicker than when we operated using scalpels and scissors – 10 to 15 minutes, compared to 40 minutes. And the bruising around the eyes is pretty much a thing of the past. instead of going into hiding for two weeks, patients now feel comfortable going out in public within two to three days. There may still be a bit of swelling, but it’s nowhere near as noticeable as two black eyes.”

The reason the effects of the procedure Pratt refers to as blepharoplasty have become so much less noticeable is that the laser cauterizes the blood vessels around the eye at the same time it’s removing the excess eyelid skin.

Pratt is an orbital-facial plastic surgeon for Clarus Eye Centre, which has facilities in Lacey and DuPont. he performs both cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgery.  The orbital phase of his title refers to the work he does in the vicinity of his patients’ eyes. The facial phase is pretty self-explanatory. he and others like him treat disorders of the eyelids and sockets, including congenital malformations, trauma, tumors and eye socket reconstruction.

All of which makes an eye-tuck seem comparatively benign, but even blepharoplasty has serious implications. Removing or repositioning skin and fat around a patient’s eyes and sometimes reinforcing the muscles and tendons is often functional rather than merely cosmetic. as we age, Pratt observes, gravity gets a good firm grip on our upper eyelid and it begins to sag, sometimes to the point that it can impair vision.

”By our late 40s and 50s,” Pratt said, “the extra skin on our upper eyelids, which has been accumulating since we were in our 30s and 40s, begins to creep onto our lashes and even droop over our pupils.”

The fine line between facial rejuvenation and preventative medicine is often drawn by insurance companies, said Pratt.

“For instance,” the doctor said, “we charge $1,800 for both eyes for blepharoplasty. that covers the operating facility, the fees of the surgical team, the follow-up, everything.”

If blepharoplasty is a procedure a patient needs in order to see clearly – to drive down the road without crossing into oncoming traffic, for example – rather than a procedure whose sole purpose is to make the patient look years younger, insurance usually covers the lion’s share of the bill.

Otherwise, it comes out of the patient’s pocket.

Clarus is on the preferred provider lists of more than 40 insurance companies and has personnel trained to help patients determine in advance precisely how much of their surgery will be covered.

That frees medical personnel up to learn new approaches to old problems, such as what to do with excess fat removed during lower-lid blepharoplasty. Pratt points out that in the past, most of the fat was simply discarded. More recently, however, techniques have been developed to relocate it. In a process called fat transposition, it is now placed where it will restore the contours of the eye to provide a rounder, more youthful appearance.

But perhaps the most significant innovation, he said, is the fact that so much of the work is done with lights these days.

”In lower-lid blepharoplasty, for instance,” he added, “we used to treat unattractive puffy lower lids by removing skin. Not any more – now, we use a carbon dioxide laser to tighten the skin and eliminate wrinkles, to resurface the lid without incising it.”

Director : Sheldon Larry

Producer : Gabriel Blanco, Glenn Gaylord, Sheldon Larry

Screenwriter : Glenn Gaylord

Starring : Ephraim Sykes, Andre Myers, Phillip Evelyn II, Miss Barbie-Q, Cameron Koa, James Alsop, Metra Dee, Demarkes Dogan

This attitude-fuelled musical is a celebration of youthful expressions of gender and sexuality that fall outside the mainstream. what the film lacks in subtlety and finesse it makes up with sparky characters and meaty songs. Brad (Sykes) is thrown out of his home by his mother (Dee), who can’t bear the thought that he might be gay. Scrounging for a living on the streets of inner-city L.a., he discovers a voguing competition and joins the House of Eminence when reigning diva Queef Latina (Barbie-Q) reluctantly lets him stay. Rival drama-queen house-members Princess and Carter (Evelyn and Myers) take him under their wings, but romantic feelings complicate things. in proper movie musical style, the characters frequently break into song to express their inner feelings, usually frustration at how difficult life is on the wrong side of the tracks. The internalised tone of the film is surprisingly involving, even if the songs feel a bit repetitive. Although some stand out wonderfully, including a sassy full-on number in a bowling alley. and the story is also punctuated by fabulously over-the-top club scenes in which muscle men fiercely strut their stuff on the catwalk in high heels and epic wigs. The striking cast sing, dance and give strong performances as people struggling to get through their lives as best they can. at the centre, Sykes is a likeable young man who’s unsure what he wants but doesn’t want to miss out on what life has to offer. Director Larry and writer Gaylord are clearly having fun with the characters and situations, never taking anything too seriously while drawing out the story’s realistically dark elements. and Larry’s camera knows exactly how to capture the natural sexuality of these beautiful black men. Despite some rather edgy language and violence, the film has a timid approach to any physical connection between the characters, only hinting at sex even as it’s clearly on everyone’s mind. indeed, the central point of the film is that African-American men find it especially difficult to express their non-mainstream artistic and romantic feelings. but the climactic ballad about “black love” is genuinely telling, and the film tackles some social and cultural issues head-on.

Karl Lagerfeld News – Chanel Designer Karl Lagerfeld: Why He Won’t Work With Hollywood Stars – Celebuzz

When Diane Kruger learned that she won on the role of Marie Antoinette in the upcoming film, Farewell, My Queen, she sought inspiration from a surprising candidate: Karl Lagerfeld.

The acclaimed couture designer has a background at esteemed fashion houses such as Chloe and Valentino, but he’s best known for his position as creative director at Chanel and Fendi. Today, his over-the-top fashion shows count as some of the year’s most highly anticipated events.

But why did Kruger seek the 78-year-old style icon’s help for a movie role?

“he is obsessed with Versailles and Marie Antoinette,” she told the Wall Street Journal. “When I got the part of the queen, he was one of the first people I called, and I walked over to his home and picked his brain for inspiration. I’ve known him since I was 16 years old, and today he’s both a friend and a neighbor.”

But Lagerfeld didn’t just talk fashion: Kruger revealed that he offered diverse insight into France’s most fashionable and controversial First Lady, thanks to his knowledge of art, culture and history.

Kruger was certainly lucky to have Lagerfeld on her side: he often eschews celebrity and is even against seeing A-listers don his designs on the red carpet. he has good reason: Lagerfeld once said that his clients have terminated orders after seeing celebs in the pieces they planned to buy.

Ironically, Lagerfeld could be called a celebrity himself — his personal style has become so recognized, it’s often duplicated at Halloween parties.

His stand-out look isn’t all he’s known for: he’s often made headlines with his sharp tongue.

In February 2012, he caused one of the year’s biggest controversies when he said that Grammy winner Adele was “a little too fat.” Even pop queen Madonna stepped up to the plate to defend the “Rolling in the Deep” star.

But Lagerfeld isn’t always negative — and when he does compliment, it’s like winning the lottery.

In June 2012, designers such as Nicholas Kirkwood critiqued Kate Middleton‘s fashion style. Lagerfeld disagreed, saying “she looks perfect! There is nothing I have to change! I think she looks beautiful.”

He has other opinions, as well: click through our gallery to see more of Lagerfeld’s most outrageous quotes.

Quandis Adds to its Military Search Offering with Release of SCRA Plug-In Tool

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., July 31, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Quandis, inc., a leading provider of default management technology solutions, announced today that it released a plug-in tool that allows default servicing law firms to adhere to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). The plug-in was designed specifically for law firms that do not have the necessary IT resources to configure Quandis’ military search platform to interface with their internal legal applications.

“Earlier this year, we integrated our military search service with one of the leading legal case management systems (CMS) in default servicing space, KMCIS’ CaseAware® solution, to seamlessly populate our search results into their CMS,” said Scott Stoddard, CEO of Quandis. “However, not all law firms currently have the IT staff and time needed to configure the data fields on their end, yet they have a burning need to ensure they comply with the SCRA. this plug-in enables them to immediately take advantage of our service with zero IT resources until they have the time to map the fields in their CMS to achieve a fully integrated solution. in short, it’s a very effective alternative to circumvent waiting for an integration to be completed; and, it’s very quick to implement.”

The new SCRA solution works by adding Quandis’ plug-in to the user’s Microsoft Excel application. The searching is conducted within the spreadsheet by invoking the Quandis’ military search API to scrub for active duty military personnel. Active borrowers identified are instantly returned back into Excel to alert the user to halt foreclosure proceedings. if the plug-in had not been built, law firms would be forced to perform the searches manually on the Department of Defense’s Web site.

Notable is that in 2011 Quandis officially released its military search service as a standalone application for use by servicers and foreclosure attorneys. Quandis then took the solution a step further by integrating it with one of the industry’s leading CMSs. Now, Quandis has developed an Excel plug-in to provide clients with as many options as possible to take advantage of its military search service and adhere to the SCRA.

Failure to comply with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act sets the stage for steep fines, lawsuits and the potential to rescind foreclosure transactions.

About Quandis:Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Foothill Ranch, California, Quandis is a default management software provider specializing in Web-based solutions for the lending industry. Public health expert David Dausey calls BPA ban ‘hollow victory’

The FDA didn’t go far enough, said Mercyhurst University Public Health Department Chair Dr. David Dausey. Dausey addresses the FDA’s recent BPA ban in his latest vlog, The Dausey File: Public Health News Today.

BPA has been associated with a wide range of health problems from to reproductive health defects. Dausey said the ban is merely symbolic and doesn’t truly regulate the controversial chemical.

“Manufactures and the chemical industry were getting such bad press from their use of BPA in baby bottles that they voluntarily decided to stop using it years ago,” Dausey said. “Now that no one is using BPA in baby bottles, the FDA finally gets around to banning it.”

It’s not only BPA that deserves further scrutiny, he said. He urged stronger state and federal regulations to protect consumers from a host of other potentially that have found their way into a vast array of consumer products.

“The last federal toxic chemical law in the United States was passed in 1976,” Dausey said. “Since then, more than 80,000 chemicals have been brought to market.”

Examples of other potentially found in consumer products include Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs), which can be found as stain retardants in clothing, and have been associated with impaired immune responses in babies; and (PBDEs), found in flame resistant products, which have been linked to learning disorders and hyperactivity in young children.

“We can and should do more to protect our children and families from harmful chemicals,” Dausey said. “The FDA’s recent ban on BPA is just a symbolic gesture that needs to be followed up with real regulations and real laws that force manufactures and the chemical industry to be accountable for their products and prove that they are safe before they are brought to market.”
