Speaking of the interwebs, gossip site Radar Online points out that daughter Khloe might have put her foot in it regarding mum’s plastic surgery.

She confirmed her mum’s facelift publicly in July 2011, just before Kim’s wedding.

“She looks amazing,” Khloe said. “They say you are supposed to have a lot of swelling for a week or so after, but I didn’t notice.”

CLEVELAND – the medical term is gynecomastia. the less flattering term is “man boobs.”

For some men and boys it’s a serious cosmetic problem – and there’s at least one surprising way a man can develop the condition.

Dr. Steven Goldman is the owner of Beachwood Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa .

“There’s a stigma associated with gynecomastia because men don’t want to have feminine body features,” he said.

It’s a stigma so bad that even the men who’ve had the corrective surgery were afraid to talk with NewsChannel5 on camera.

“Marijuana suppresses testosterone levels,” Dr. Goldman said.

And that means a warning to the boys in your life.

“Young men who use marijuana through puberty may have that transient, temporary breast enlargement become permanent because as their testosterone levels are altered by the marijuana,” Dr. Goldman said. “They can get interference with the normal development. And those men can have in essence more breast tissue when they’re done with puberty than they would have otherwise had.” 

But for other guys it’s genetic and some can develop the condition who’ve lost a lot of weight or who’ve had gastric bypass surgery.

“They may be left with permanent, skin excess, and looseness that might have to be addressed,” said Dr. Goldman.

But are there ways to work it out at the gym?

Dr. Goldman said maybe. NewsChannel5 talked with Cleveland State University Rec Center trainer and graduate student Justin Porter.

He said the chest press exercise might help.

“The chest press is going to be helping your upper chest development.  And it’s going to add a greater load across your chest, which is going to make your chest change after time,” said Porter. 

Also, men who have gynecomastia might want to try the incline cable fly. Porter said that might help to raise the chest. 

But if that doesn’t work, a nip and tuck might be in order.

For some guys, it might mean liposuction.

Dr. Goldman said the corrective surgery can start at  $2,500. In other cases, a cut is made near the nipple.

“That small incision heals very well and usually is not noticeable without a shirt on, or a beach or pool setting, but that small incision allows me through a keyhole to remove the tissue between the pectoralis muscle and the skin. It’s a thin layer of breast tissue that once removed, the skin can contract and the chest looks normal, masculine.”

Dr. Goldman said for teenage boys going through puberty, especially if the gynecomastia is only on one side, it might just be hormonal and can go away.  He said check with your pediatrician.

Also, if the man in your life has gynecomastia, is he at an increased risk of developing breast cancer? 

Dr. Goldman said there’s nothing in medical studies showing a greater increase, but he does run tests.

“If a man had associated symptoms like nipple drainage, you’d have to work that up appropriately, you might get MRIs, get a hormone testing through an endocrinologist, and anybody who comes in with chest enlargement; you have to always consider the possibility of cancer. And some of those patients need more work-up than treating it as purely a cosmetic case.”

RALEIGH (WTVD) — Testimony from doctors Thursday morning revealed the trauma N.C. State Board of Education member Kathy Taft suffered in a brutal 2010 attack.

During the second day of Jason Williford’s murder trial, a group of physicians took the stand and described how Taft’s skull had been crushed and fragments were pushed into her brain days before she died.

Williford has pleaded not guilty in the 62 year old’s killing at a home in Raleigh. he could face the death penalty if convicted.

Police have said Williford attacked Taft inside a home on Cartier Lane in the late night hours of March 5 or the early morning hours of March 6. She died at WakeMed a few days later.

The former member of the State Board of Education and her sister were housesitting at the Raleigh home while Taft recovered from a cosmetic surgery.

Her sister found her bloodied body and lab results revealed the state school board member had been sexually assaulted and had a deep cut on the back of her head.

Early on the morning after the attack, Taft’s plastic surgeon testified Thursday that everyone first thought was that her surgery the day before had gone wrong.

Dr. Ronald Riefkohl said he could see Taft’s skull when he removed blood-soaked bandages from her plastic surgery.

“As I removed the bandage, I immediately found this huge defect in the left side of her scalp and I could see the bone edges,” he said.

Riefkohl told jurors he knew that injury had nothing to do with the surgery he had done. a WakeMed doctor then asked if Riefkohl had used a catheter during Taft’s surgery, which he did not.

“He said, ‘Well, why does she have all this bruising and bleeding from her vaginal area,’” Riefkohl said. “So I, I just knew … something was bizarre.”

Taft underwent emergency brain surgery, but the doctor at the hospital that day told the court Thursday that he did not believe Taft would survive following the emergency procedure due to the severity of her injuries. the former member of the State Board of Education passed away three days later.

The medical examer who conducted Taft’s autopsy said he determined that the severe blows to her head lead to her death.

Semen left at the scene was eventually matched to Williford who initially pleaded not guilty to the murder and rape.

Williford’s lawyers are not disputing that he attacked Taft, but they are arguing he had mental problems and is not guilty of premeditated first-degree murder. Prosecutors will have to convince jurors otherwise if they want to send him to death row.

Taft served on the State School Board for 15 years. She also ran unsuccessfully for a state Senate seat in 2008. Prior to that, she served on the Pitt County Board of Education.

I think everyone in the specialty has felt some type of economic impact, but I believe it is less than what you would expect. in my personal practice there was maybe one month in 2008 where there was a visible difference in comparison to other years. it may be surprising, but with new reasons to enter or re-enter the job market to supplement the family income, there became a legitimate place for cosmetic surgery in a sagging economy.whether it is politically correct or not, it is widely believed that appearance and youthful looks play a part in getting hired, getting a promotion and getting new clients.
