Eye Lift Surgery – Eyelid Reshaping

An eye lift or eyelid surgery is a type of cosmetic surgery. it is used by men and women who want to look younger. Eyelid surgery can give people a more open look to their eyes or it can reshape their eyes. the technical name for an eye lift is blepharoplasty. with the focus on looking more youthful, this surgery may be popular, but it is also complicated, so you need to take precautions.

The eyes may be the mirror to the soul. but sometimes, when people look at themselves in the mirror, they can only focus on droopy eyes or bags under the eyes. they may consider blepharoplasty, which is the medical name of an eye lift. During an eye lift, the surgeon makes an incision, through which excess fat can be removed. the incision can be made inside the eyelid, or just beneath the lashes. If there is excess skin, this is removed as well. the skin and the muscle can then be made tighter. with the skin tightened, the eye appears younger and more open. Puffiness is reduced. Crinkled skin on the eyelid or under the eye can appear smoother. An eye lift can be done on the upper eye or the lower eye or both.

As with any cosmetic surgery, this is not a cheap procedure. the cost will depend on whether you are having both upper and lower lids done, or just one area. Cost begins at $2000 and is probably not going to be covered by insurance, so you will need to find a way to pay for this yourself.

There are also risks to consider, which can include the issues of anesthesia, as well as potential scarring and infection. the eyes are very delicate, so it is essential that you use a board certified and experienced cosmetic surgeon.

What is liposuction?Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes fat deposits from under the skin. Liposuction is done using special equipment that essentially breaks up stubborn fat stores and suctions them out from under the skin. Liposuction is a safe and effective way to remove excess fat particularly in the midsection and thighs.

Am I a candidate for liposuction? If you have excess fat that you can’t seem to get rid of you may be a candidate for liposuction. Liposuction is an option for both men and women. an initial consultation with the doctor will help determine whether liposuction is a good option in your specific case.

Is liposuction safe?Liposuction is a safe procedure when performed by a qualified doctor. the procedure should be done in a medical facility. When choosing a doctor look for a qualified cosmetic surgeon who has training and experience specializing in liposuction procedures.

What happens during liposuction?Liposuction encompasses two main components. first, the affected fat is injected with a special liquid that will help to break up the fat. Once the fat is sufficiently broken down the liquid and fat are removed from under the skin using a suction device. the procedure is done slowly to ensure that each section is properly completed.

What areas of the body can liposuction be used on?Liposuction works best on places that contain large areas of stubborn fat stores. the most common areas include the stomach and the thighs however liposuction can also be used on other areas including the buttocks and arms. your doctor will discuss the procedure with you and will recommend the best areas in each particular case.

How much does liposuction cost?Liposuction costs can vary greatly depending on the extent of liposuction that is being done. Liposuction is usually considered cosmetic surgery so it may not be covered by your medical insurance. Patients can check with their insurance provider to determine what portions will be covered. To make liposuction affordable most doctors offer flexible payment plans or financing. this gives patients small monthly payments to make liposuction accessible to everyone.

How To Choose a Good Plastic Surgeon

Are you considering plastic surgery? if so, the very first and most important thing you need to do is make a wise choice about your plastic surgeon. in this day and age, that’s simple enough to do. there are many highly skilled men and women who want nothing more than to be the one to enhance your appearance.

Let’s talk about a few crucial things a good plastic surgeon needs to have:

- Association with a local hospital.

- Recognized and accepted by his fellow physicians.

- Medical society member.

- Good reputation in his community.

- Specially trained in the field of cosmetic or plastic surgery.

Now let’s look at some negative things a plastic surgeon should not have:

- has no particular association with a local hospital.

- One who’s had any sort of adverse actions or lawsuits past or present against him.

- Uses extreme pressure to get you to do the surgery without discussing the advantages and disadvantages.

- Employs a staff that is unfriendly or unprofessional.

- Holds no board certification.

As you can see, there are many pro’s and con’s in choosing the right plastic surgeon for your needs. It’s very important that you do your homework and make the wisest choice.

You may wonder why it’s so crucial you choose correctly. sometimes there are complications during or after surgery, many of which can’t be predicted. A well-trained surgeon will be able to handle these situations in the best way possible, ensuring a positive outcome.

The education, experience and training of your surgeon must be the best in order for you to obtain quality health care. although, since experience can vary from doctor to doctor, this factor should not keep you from enlisting one who has been practicing a shorter time than another. Check the less-experienced doctor’s credentials and training to satisfy any doubts.

A good place to begin your search is at your local hospital. if anyone ought to know which doctors are reputable, it’s them. The mere fact that they deal with medical conditions and practitioners every day will be reassuring.

Another important consideration in your research is to take your time. Check out two or three surgeons and all of their credentials before settling on one. Have a personal interview with each. ask to see before and after photos of previous clients. if they refuse to show you photos, get up and leave.

Also, don’t just make an appointment with someone on a friend’s recommendation. Do your homework What was good for your friend may not be best for you. this is a life-changing process, and you want it done right.

And, please know that just being board-certified isn’t the best recommendation. It’s important, but it’s a written test and does not speak to the skills and training of the physician himself. Don’t base your entire search and choice on board certification alone. After all, this could be the most important choice of your life. make it wisely.

Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Blog – Harley Medical Group » Blog Archive » Designer vagina procedures on the rise, says plastic surgeon

Published on June 29, 2012 by Olivia Dingley

Labiaplasty, a procedure commonly grouped under the term ‘designer vagina’, is picking up pace in the race to the top of the list of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures.

This is according to Dr James Matas, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Orlando, USA. in his experience, there are two distinct groups of women who look into cosmetic gynaecology procedures: young women looking to achieve symmetry for an aesthetic improvement, and women who have noticed significant changes to their genitalia following pregnancy or significant weight loss.

Of his labiaplasty patients, Dr Matas said: “Despite the growing popularity of this procedure, the opinion of many gynaecologists is that the value of this procedure is unproven.

“Although a delicate issue to address, the cases that I have performed made a huge difference in the area of self-esteem with the resulting aesthetic improvement of the female genitalia,” he added.

Dr Matas, and many other plastic surgeons, are in no doubt as to the improved body confidence this procedure can have for women, but many women also undergo such procedures to relieve the pain that can be a side effect of having enlarged labia.

Growing Trend: Chin Implants

Over the last year Dr. Darrick Antell has performed up to three or four chin implants a day, reflecting a national trend that has seen chin augmentations emerge as the fastest growing plastic surgery trend of 2011.

After about a 45-minute outpatient procedure and a bill ranging from $3,500 to $7,500, New York-based Antell’s patients emerge with what he said is a confidence boost: an athletic, youthful look from a more prominent chin.

“People want that leading lady, leading man look,” said Antell, who is also an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Columbia University.

“if you look at people in the limelight, they all have strong chins and it’s a part of the profile that has long been overlooked,” he said.

Chin implants surged by 71 percent in 2011 as more than 20,600 adults went under the knife to sharpen their jaw lines, up from roughly 12,000 the year before, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Strong chins are associated with leadership, confidence and honesty, Antell said, not to mention some powerful men and women.

“Romney’s got a great chin,” Antell said of the presidential hopeful. “Obama has a pretty good chin. Bill Clinton has a very good chin.”

POPULAR AMONG MEN AND WOMEN

Chin implants surgery increased more than breast augmentation, Botox and liposuction combined last year with both men and women opting for the procedure in nearly equal numbers, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Chin augmentation, or actually making the chin protrude more, increased among all patients over the age of 20, with the most significant increases in patients 40 and older, according to the society.

Facial aging tends to appear first on the chin and jaw line and surgery provides a quick change, experts said. They also point to video chat and online photo technology as driving forces behind the escalating numbers.

Posting pictures on Facebook, online dating sites and the increasingly prevalent use of video chat technology like Skype and FaceTime make it harder to hide a person’s least favorite feature or perceived flaws, said Dr. Malcolm Roth, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the head of plastic surgery at Albany Medical Center in New York.

“we tend to not look at what we don’t like,” said Roth. “I think there is a heightened awareness to how we look to the outside world.”

The surgery is even appealing to people out of work, according to Roth, who said the cost hasn’t deterred some who say it gives them more confidence at job interviews.

Chin augmentation can be done by putting a semi-solid implant on top of the chin, by moving bone to reconstruct the chin or simply by using a needle and syringe for an injection to enhance the chin, Roth said.

The procedure leaves minimal scarring from a very small incision and is sometimes coupled with micro-liposuction to trim a so-called double chin, enhancing the neck and jaw line even further.

Recuperation is easy and patients can typically be back to normal routines in a matter of days, Roth said.

Despite the chin implant boom, breast augmentation still reigns as the most popular cosmetic procedure. the surgery costs about $10,000 more than 307,000 procedures were performed in 2011, statistics showed.

Antell said he expects the chin implants trend to continue, largely because of the quick recovery and low complication rate. he added that other similar, smaller scale procedures at a younger age are also likely to climb.

“this is an operation that whispers, it doesn’t shout,” said Antell. “Most people are not looking for huge changes, they are just hoping to look a little better, the best they can.”

Before going under the knife, disclose your full medical history to your doctor so as to prevent complications or side effects arising as a result of an underlying health condition or disease. having a detailed open discussion with your surgeon will ensure that you will be ready for any eventuality that will likely occur as result of the procedure.

Awful Plastic Surgery Causes and Considerations

Brigham and Women’s Hospital considers first US double arm transplant

A woman from Kingswood, Texas, could become the first person in the United States to receive transplants for both arms above the elbow.

Katy Hayes, 43, lost all four of her limbs when she was infected with a flesh-eating bacteria after giving birth to her third child two years ago. Hayes has been going through physical and psychological screening at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to be placed on the transplant list to receive new arms.

That could happen within a month, said Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, director of plastic surgery transplantation at the Brigham. then Hayes would wait for a donor.

Pomahac said he believes the surgery would be the first in the United States to transplant two arms above the elbow. the hospital has performed bilateral hand transplants on two other patients. Richard Mangino received new hands last fall. Surgeons also gave Charla Nash new hands at the same time as a face transplant last year, though a subsequent infection required that they be removed.

Arm transplants are technically less difficult than hand transplants because the anatomy of the upper arm where the limb is attached is less complex, Pomahac said.

“But it’s a bit more challenging in terms of recovery,” he said.

“She’s close to being completely helpless, and if she has arms she can begin to make food for herself and her family,” said Lucille McNaughton, Hayes’s mother, in Dearborn, Mich. “We all know it would take a long time before she would be what we call normal, but she has a determination to do that.

“It’s hard for anyone to realize how horrible this is, but she has such a good attitude. She’s such a great person. . . . Right now I talk to her and she doesn’t cry.”

McNaughton said the family is trying to raise funds to pay for the surgery.

“We’re going to have to struggle a bit to pay for it,” she said. “She’s determined to do it, and I’m determined to help her.”

If all goes well, Pomahac said Hayes could begin to have sensation in her new hands about a year after surgery.

Even without that, though, gaining an elbow and forearm would greatly improve her function because the arm could be used as a hook to hold bags or as a lever, he said.

Pomahac said that Hayes and her husband, Al, have been proceeding well through screening, which includes a psychological assessment “so that people don’t expect miracles but expect what we hope we can give them.”

In a profile in the Houston Chronicle on Monday, Hayes said, “I want my life back.”

“I want to hold my last child before she’s grown — and she’s already 2,” she told the Chronicle. “If anybody tells me ‘no,’ I’ll just go to the next hospital. ‘No’ is not an option.”

Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery – Say Goodbye to that Turkey Neck!

Everyone has seen a turkey wattle on someone and they can be a real problem for both men and women. Fortunately, and especially in Orange County there are a wide range of techniques available to smooth out the appearance of the neck. they include everything from a minimal office treatment with no down time to fully invasive procedures requiring anesthesia. Turkey neck is usually caused by a combination of loose skin and muscle as well as excess fat and can be corrected by a plastic surgery procedure called a neck lift.

The procedure to correct this flabby facial condition usually lasts two to three hours and longer if you are having a neck lift in concert with other procedures such as liposuction, facelift, forehead lift. all patients are unique and procedures will vary depending on the initial consultation and expected results. Either way, before you undergo a neck lift you must be in good physical and mental health.

To begin the lift, your surgeon will make a small incision under the chin to allow access to the neck muscle and any fat deposits. once the excess fat has been removed by liposuction or excision, the muscles can then be tightened. your surgeon may opt for the removal of any excess skin that has lost elasticity. once the underlying muscles have been tightened, the skin is then re-draped over the neck while the incisions are closed with sutures. Sometimes, sutures will need to be removed or if they may dissolve on their own.

To expedite recovery and proper healing, a drain may be placed under the skin to collect excess fluid. Excessive fluid buildup would only increase post operative swelling and discomfort. In addition to the drain, you may fitted with a compression bandage in order to help reduce post-operative swelling. this bandage is usually worn for at least a week. It’s important to follow your specific recovery instructions to ensure proper healing.

Once the procedure is completed and the bandages are removed, your wattle will be gone and you will look and feel years younger.
