Love and marriage in North Korea

NEW YORK — Imagine North Korean leader Kim Jong un in a tuxedo, waiting nervously at the altar (or shrine) of his grandfather, Kim Il Sung, and his father, Kim Jong Il. He beholds his future wife’s face, anticipating his chance to kiss the bride. of course, such an event can only be imagined in today’s North Korea. In the photographs presented to the world of the newly public couple, they stand chastely, but contentedly, next to each other but at an appropriate distance, or she follows a few steps behind.

While observers of North Korean affairs seem both tickled and stumped by Kim Jong Un’s marriage, and the accompanying media snippets, this “new development” is not startling. it implies nothing about the young leader’s attitudes toward, say, political and economic reform; nor does it signify an effort to appeal to younger citizens for support. instead, the true meaning of Kim’s marriage can be found in Korean tradition and dynastic practices.

For Koreans on both sides of the 38th parallel, marriage has long been a staple of social life. the Population Reference Bureau reports that in 2008, only 25 percent of North Korean women aged 25-29 — and a mere 4 percent of women aged 30-34 — had never been married. among the Pyongyang elite, marriage is de rigueur, with 80 percent of the city’s adult residents registered as married. Indeed, a Korean must be married with children to be considered a true adult — and that is no less true for North Korea’s First Couple.

According to the South Korean newspaper Hankyoreh Sinmun, the average North Korean man marries at age 29, and the average woman at 25.5. Thus, Kim, who is purportedly 28 years old, got to the altar right on time.

Furthermore, women are the majority in North Korea’s capital. According to one recent defector, who lived among the elite before escaping to South Korea, more than 60 percent of Pyongyang’s residents are female. a woman’s face — that of First Lady Ri Sol Ju — could therefore help to bolster support for the new regime.

Perhaps most important, marriage bestows on the young Kim social and, in turn, political legitimacy. before the “Great Successor” was married, he looked like a young boy, sandwiched between generals, bureaucrats and family members. among his older, experienced colleagues, he resembled a lost puppy, or a well-coached boy imitating a king, always in his predecessors’ shadow.

He was not Kim Jong un, the new leader of North Korea, but a miniature version of “Great Leader” Kim Il Sung. And, since ascending to power after his father’s death last December, he has constantly been compared to the Kim dynasty’s progenitor. In fact, before he was “unveiled” to the North Korean public, Kim Jong un is rumored to have been forced to undergo plastic surgery so that he would resemble his grandfather more closely.

In many Western societies, marriage, sex, and children do not necessarily come in one package. But in Korean and dynastic cultures, they do — like puzzle pieces forming a perfect familial picture.

If North Korea’s first couple already have a child, as South Korean intelligence experts believe, Kim might be in better social and political shape than many predict. a child would prove his manhood and serve as his potential heir — raising Kim’s status from boy king and “Great Successor” to legitimate leader responsible for grooming the dynasty’s next generation. If he is not yet a father, he undoubtedly is working on it, as progeny would decrease the risk that his half-brothers or other relatives might challenge his position.

Now Kim must show that he is a real family man, like his father and grandfather, each of whom had multiple wives and children. First Lady Ri probably hopes to bear sons soon, to become “Supreme Wife and Mother” and to live a long and happy life — with or without Kim. If she is smart, she knows that North Korea’s future, and therefore hers, is a precarious one. Keeping the government in a family of her own will help to secure her position, as well as that of her husband.

Wealth of Advice

By Francisco J. Colayco

Aside from changes in work attitude, there are three other concerns where attitudes may need to be changed. these are in retirement, credit card and providing children with inheritance. Today, we tackle retirement.

Many aspire to retire earlier than the law allows. At age 50, any retirement package received is already tax-free. however, for many companies, compulsory retirement is either age 60-65. I think most start getting “burned-out” by their late 40s. They think of retiring in their 50s but, maybe that is too early to retire. maybe, they just need a long vacation and then, get into active work again. or perhaps, change into a less stressful undertaking.

You need to prepare for your retirement from the time you start working. Of course, new graduates in their first job can never imagine they will grow old but we seniors know that it comes sooner than we ever thought it would. most of the time, it is already too late to do anything about it.

If you are in the prime of your life, 20-40 years old, you are busy earning a living, proving that you are good, and making your employer rich. There is nothing bad about all these goals. but include your personal retirement package. Retirement packages from employers are generally not enough to fully support all your needs indefinitely upon retirement. And, there can be reversals in business and it is possible that by the time you retire, the company can no longer afford your package.the same holds true for our government retirement pay through Social Security system or Government Service Insurance system. We have read/heard time and again in the news that the funds of the SSS and GSIS may not be properly invested to cover requirements at the time of retirement of the members. In fact, in other countries, the government retirement age when benefits can be distributed has been increased by 5 years.

It is better not to retire early, if you have the choice. Do your computation of benefits, if any. when the retirement of 65 years old was established, most people died in their 60s and 70s. Today, many live to 80s and 90s and are still strong.

Some are lucky to receive retirement pay and still be young enough to take on active work. let me warn you that the worse thing you can do is to invest your retirement pay in a new business where the success rate is very low. when you are young and make a mistake, you have time to recover. At retirement, just invest in very low risk options. unfortunately, low risk means low returns. this is why your retirement package plus your own lifetime savings should be big enough to maintain your lifestyle even if you only receive low returns.

We discuss these issues in our seminars/workshops where we teach you to invest. choose one to join and you will be surprised on how much you will learn. Call us at 6373731 or 6373741 or visit www.colaycofoundation.com

New York Males Celebrate Father’s Day in Advance by Booking Appointments with Leading Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Stephen Greenberg for quick Fixes, Make-Overs & More

Woodbury/Manhattan/Southampton, NY (PRWEB) June 04, 2012

with the American male grooming market now worth $3.5 billion, men seem to be changing their attitude about issues that were in the past thought of as female focused.

Feeling the need to look youthful and appear dynamic well into your 40s, 50s and 60s has led to men re-thinking their attitudes towards diet, exercise, face-care products and cosmetic (plastic) surgery. with Father’s Day fast approaching, the number of men searching for products and procedures is on the rise.

Men increasingly want to change what they don’t like about their appearance. Statistics available from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) show that surgery is becoming increasingly popular as a way for men to deal with image maintenance and change. according to the ASAPS annual survey, over 800,000 cosmetic surgeries were performed on men in 2011, increasing the number by 121% from 1997.

Sales show that American males spend billions on grooming products each year, but it’s not just over the counter options that men are craving. with Father’s Day right around the corner, men are flocking to both the skin-care aisles of department stores and pharmacies as well as booking appointments with cosmetic surgeons for everything from Botox injections to breast reductions (gynecomastia). according to the statistics, in 2011 men underwent more than 1.1 million cosmetic procedures, which included both non-invasive options and cosmetic surgery.

Award winning cosmetic surgeon Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg has seen a significant upswing in bookings with male patients this year, and over the past 5 years, at his offices in Manhattan, Woodbury and Southampton, new York. “I am confident that I will continue to see a growth in my practice in the number of men seeking cosmetic surgery. The weeks just prior to and following Father’s Day have historically been notably busy, indicative of the number of men wanting to maintain their youthful appearance”, reported Dr Greenberg.

At Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Greenberg notes that there are many reasons for men turning to surgery. “My typical male cosmetic surgery patient is an average man who wants to look as good as he feels,” explains Greenberg. with so many non-invasive and non-surgical procedures, fillers and laser techniques available, there is little to no recovery time needed. Dr. Greenberg reports that, “These days, I am seeing many more men for non invasive medspa treatments and injectable fillers because these procedures do not require any downtime or call attention to the fact that a procedure was done.”

In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Greenberg sees clients at his luxury med-spa, Glisten, where he offers non-invasive services and injectables. during the month of June, Glisten will offer 20% off of all Skin Tightening packages and 20% off (one area) Coolsculpting (fat reduction) treatments for men.

Dr. Greenberg also hosts weekly Cosmetic Surgery Radio Talk Shows on KJOY 98.3 FM and Party 105.3 FM, is the author of “A LITTLE NIP, a LITTLE TUCK and has created his own product line, “Cosmetic Surgeon in a Jar.” for further information, please visit http://www.GreenbergCosmeticSurgery.com, http://www.ALittleNipALittleTuck.com and http://www.CosmeticSurgeoninaJar.com.

Largest Canadian research survey of its kind probes 2,000 Canadian women on their attitudes about body image, aging and cosmetic surgical procedures

TORONTO, June 11, 2012 /CNW/ – As the weather heats up, women’s minds automatically turn to summer wardrobes: shorts, tank tops and the always dreaded bikini. A recent survey, conducted by OnResearch, polled 2,000 Canadian women coast to coast on everything from their personal confidence and body image, to how they would feel if a friend told them they had breast implants. the research shows that while 39 per cent of Canadian women feel more confident about their body than ever before1, two in three (62%) wish there was something they could do about the age-related changes to their body2 – and almost half (48%) of women say that they have considered plastic surgery3.

Getting your body beach-ready Leading up to bikini season, 37 per cent of women say they change their diet or exercise routine to get their body in shape4, and the top two areas of concern for women overall are the stomach (66%) and breasts (32%)5. While plastic surgery is not for everyone, for women who are considering a procedure, there are safe options that can be discussed during a visit with a certified plastic surgeon.

Dr. Mitchell Brown, from Toronto Plastic Surgery, comments, “Age, genetics, important milestones such as having children and losing or gaining weight can all impact the body – especially the stomach and breast areas, which can be difficult to change through diet and exercise alone. there have been many advancements in plastic surgery and there continues to be innovation in options, technology and research, which is giving women more choice than ever before. My patients are looking for a natural look and today that is absolutely achievable.”

Women don’t always want bigger, sometimes just “better”Breast augmentation is now the number one aesthetic plastic surgery procedure in North America6, and almost one in five (19%) Canadian women would consider getting breast implants7.

As the number of breast augmentation procedures each year continues to climb, the research shows that improving self-esteem is the most important motivation behind getting a plastic surgery procedure, followed closely by knowing you have a trusted and professional surgeon to perform the procedure8.

Metro Males: Cosmetic Surgery Is On The Rise In Men

People may come in all shapes and sizes, but that’s not to say people have to accept the shape or size they find themselves in.

Indeed, much in the same way as people can style their hair, polish their teeth, pierce their ears, wear scents, administer make-up and even tattoo themselves from head to toe, people can cosmetically alter their entire look too.

The fashion models that parade across the catwalks are chosen for their supposed beauty and photogenic qualities. Beauty is a very subjective thing and there is no right or wrong answer in terms of what’s beautiful and what’s not.

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but the fact remains that many people feel that the way they look is a reflection of who they are and therefore looks can affect confidence and attitudes.

Furthermore, cosmetic surgery may have somewhat of a reputation as being predominantly ‘women only’ territory, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Figures recently released by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) revealed that cosmetic surgery in men increased by over a fifth between 2008 and 2009, whilst more specifically, breast reduction procedures in men increased by well over three quarters over the same period.

The fact that a typically female-only procedure such as breast reduction is seeing such a sharp rise in men is testament to the overall trend of an increasing acceptability of plastic surgery and also increasing safety in cosmetic surgery techniques.

It’s not just breast reduction procedures that are on the rise in men. everything from face/neck lifts, liposuction and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), to Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), Rhinoplasty (nose job) and Otoplasty (ear correction) are all on the increase in the UK male population too.

After breast reduction, brow lifts saw the biggest increase in men, with more than a 50% increase between 2008 and 2009, perhaps a sign that men are yearning to look young for longer.

Being concerned with personal appearance is no longer a badge of femininity. the 1990s saw the emergence of the metrosexual male, an urban man with a genuine interest in his own appearance and lifestyle. This is reflected in the countless magazines and cosmetic products now aimed at males.

As the statistics show, this trend is continuing with cosmetic surgery, with more and more men seeking to take control of their appearance. It is their body, after all, so it makes sense that they have the choice.

Metro Males: Cosmetic Surgery Is On The Rise In Men

Insecure about looks – something that cannot be changed, unless using plastic surgery?

and i do like myself and my looks, but i get insecure assuming men will not like me for it.

What should i do?

I really don't want to do a plastic surgery, because i like myself the way i am.

Also i would feel stupid doing a plastic surgery, because i do think it is stupid to do it.

But i do realize this is causing me a social problem with men.

look is not important in friendship , tr nature, behavior ,attitudes , tr speech , ted's all

you are annoying.

Part of being insecure is not liking what you see and you just said "i like myself the way i am."

Stop wasting our time and go to bed, school will start back soon.

It is on your mind..get the surgery and forget about it..if it bothers you (and it does) then get it over with.

honey i wouldnt worry about it…if you like how you look i wouldnt let it bother you…i do understand that it can be frustrating, but look at it from this point of view…you will know who mr. right is cuz he will be with you cause of who you are and because he loves your little flaws. those other men are just being really stupid and dont know what they are missing out on…

a good man falls in love for ur heart, not face.

I know it sounds cliche, but confidence is more attractive than anything you could do to alter your appearance. try changing your perspective a little. Realize that you carry with you every day a highly sophisticated, graceful creation. Let that realization inspire you to care for your body, and everything it houses – like your soul. in the end, that is what people see anyway. There are plenty of generically pretty people in the world who pursue vanity above substance. see your mind and your being as the proverbial tabula rasa (blank page) upon which you can create the person your heart desires. Fill your mind with knowledge and wisdom. Expose yourself to the beauty of the world. hopefully, when you do this, you will invest more into who you are inside, which will resolve your social awkwardness, and people will see you as beautiful. You will see yourself as beautiful.

Be clean, Be neat and have fun. Some guy will like you.

ya know if your happy with yourself than why does it matter. all people get insucre sometimes but you will find that one person that thinks your a beauty don't walk around worried about the way guys look at you. be true to yourself everything will eventually fall into place
