Come On Barbie, Let’s Go Party

A conversation Beth and I were having last night led to me looking up when they stopped making Skipper dolls, and apparently they haven’t. There have been a LOT of dolls over the years advertised as Barbie’s sisters, some of which didn’t last. anyway, looking up Barbie on Wikipedia led to some interesting diversions, particularly concerning the Controversies section. I’d heard most of these before, but they’re interesting to revisit. I have to wonder how many girls are actually driven to eating disorders by Barbie dolls. my gut reaction would be something like, “It’s a DOLL! my favorite toy when I was a kid was Winnie-the-Pooh, but I didn’t want to BE him!”You know, Pooh is obsessed with food, so is he a bad role model in the opposite direction? But then, not only am I a guy, but I had a rather sheltered childhood, so I just wasn’t aware of a lot of these issues. I do remember hearing about a grown woman who got plastic surgery to look as much like Barbie as possible, but I’m sure it’s not generally that extreme.Barbie does have utterly impossible measurements, but then she also can’t stand up and has no crotch. People seem to forget those aspects of the doll. I don’t know. I’ve talked to Beth about this before, and she said parents complaining about their weight is a much bigger problem.

We also can’t forget about the talking Barbie, who said a number of vapid and sexist things. For some reason, particular attention was paid to her saying, “Math class is tough!”, although I’m not really sure what the big deal is with that. Math class IS tough for a lot of people, and it’s not like Barbie said its being tough means it’s not worth doing. I have to wonder how much of the problem comes down to pinning down a character for a toy. In my childhood, the advertising slogan was, “We girls can do anything, right, Barbie?” and what Barbie was like was indeed largely up to the kids playing with the dolls. sure, you COULD imagine Barbie to be a vapid society girl, and there are certainly many accessories that support that characterization; but there are also Barbies who are astronauts and doctors. With the talking Barbie, there’s really no way to see her other than as a ditz. that was certainly the impression I got from the Simpsons episode “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy,” which satirized the doll and the resulting controversy. The bit with Lisa’s classmate having a Malibu Stacy with Spider-Man’s voice box was also a reference to a real-life event, when people would be talking Barbies, replace the voice boxes with ones from G.I. Joes, and return them to the store.I’m pretty sure the scene is also the only speaking part for Celeste, although she looks like she could be one of Cletus’ many children. I guess she fared about as well as Tanya.

Want to Look Like Barbie? Think Again

Are you just dying to be Barbie? when it comes to plastic surgery, you are literally risking your life to have the perfect face, perfect lips, perfect body, perfect boobs, and perfect butt. Barbie has been a long time symbol of perfect beauty. unfortunately, many people buy the idea that having the perfect appearance will translate to perfect life. People don’t just risk their lives to get a fuller lips, but people want fuller lips because they had an idea in their mind how their fuller lips can enhance their life. Before having yourself cut, you might want to consider some truths about Barbie and her perfect world.

Barbie is replaceable

Where are your Barbie dolls right now? if you are like me then there’s a high chance that your dolls are all without heads and few broken limbs. just like your dolls, becoming beautiful doesn’t guarantee that people won’t leave you. one of the most popular reasons for going under the knife is saving a marriage or preventing someone to leave them. You’re new features can probably hold them for just a while. But not long enough, just like a toy they can easily lose interest. You could end up like your old Barbie dolls, dusty and broken.

Creating Barbie is expensive

Barbie is a product. From her eyes down to her toes, someone got paid in making them look perfect. looking perfect doesn’t come cheap. Cosmetic surgery is one of the most costly surgical operations out there. It can burn holes deep in your perfect.

There are no gossips in Barbie’s world

Unlike Barbie, people will notice your new look. unless you like people talking behind your back, be sure you’ll know how to answer their questions. You will be the topic of conversation by everyone you knew. Some are armed with criticisms and some with praises. Denying you had something done will only create more talks.

Barbie doesn’t have lungs, heart, and other vital organs

plastic surgery is not risk free. You’ll be fully informed by doctors that there are chances for complications and infections. In fact, people have died while undergoing it. You won’t need the perfect body if you are 6 feet under.

Barbie doesn’t deal with problems

You can throw Barbie out the window and she will still have the same smile on its face. Barbie doesn’t have to bother whether she is happy or not. Plastic surgery can make you the prettiest face in the world but still end up lonely and sad in the inside. Learn from the lives of celebrities. Some of them have the worst kind of life. all too often that some of them suffer from failed marriages and personal problems.

Being beautiful doesn’t mean life will get easier. our lives are too complicated. Don’t hope for cosmetic surgery to magically zap your problems away. Your appearance won’t solve the problem in global warming, poverty, and war. the effects of plastic surgery are mostly superficial.

Why do many white girls get breast implants?

Do they have tiny breasts? According to a survey in the USA, more than 86% white girls want breast implants while the other 14% don't. whereas only 13% black and 7% asian girls in the USA want breast implants. So why do white girls get and those who don't have it, want to get implants? Are they insecure about their bodies?

There are always insecurities……….but yes I saw this difference that many white girls want to be like a *barbie doll????……………yes like a barbie dolls like a Heidi Montag very pretty and very plastic at the same time looking fabulously hot at the age 23. I think they love to have implants and it's their rights, if they so love it let them have it. I know Asian women love to have surgeries on their eyes.

Because they are socialized to want bigger breasts. IMO, the media makes it seem like the perfect woman has long legs, small butt, waist, hips and big breasts. And most of the models for this are white. in the African American community a lot of the girls want big butts. that is what is considered attractive.

It is probably a passing thing.

In twenty years they will all be older and start telling that it wasn't really what they had hoped, and then most young girls won't want to do it.

That has happened with so many new things.

You must be black or something. Black girls can be just as insecure about their bodies a white girl.

Which survey was this…..?

Some girls just want breast implants, it doesn`t mean all "white girls" have smal breasts.

i think it might be more cultrally accepted and ussaly i think if u got one or the other ur good to go ……………… but its all about being happy with what u got and working with it ,

they want bigger boobs. i don't really get it unless you have tiny boobs, but most people don't…so i think it's a self esteem thing

I am sure there are plenty of women of other races who get them too

Not all of us do; believe me I don't need them and I wouldn't ever get breast implants.

Which survey was this?

Trying to get big boobs.

i personally like small boobs. but the booty has to be big.

they have more money.

What do you think of these debate topics?

im doing this controversial/ debate essay for school. i have a couple topics so far. im in 7th grade by the way.

1)juvenile hall-
are kids really learning anything? people are just holding them in there hoping for them to change on there own. they should take time to teach them things and require them to earn their high school diploma. they can teach them life skills so when they are released they can start a new path for themselves. most kids come for horrible backgrounds or single parent homes. parents can be gone all the time and the kids only escape is to cause trouble because theres NO parent figure.

2)plastic surgery-
there should be no plastic surgery. we are born how are parents made us and how we were ment to live our lives. these models and plastic barbie dolls are killing young girls self esteem! the only thing they teach them is that "this is the way people look. like beautiful models" well wake up call nobody looks like that without expensive makeup or being airbrushed. plastic surgery will ruin self esteem and all it does is make people keep spending money because nothing will work for them. they will have all this pressure from magazines and covergirls that they will eventually go wild with plastic surgery and thats not how we were ment to live our lives.

please contribute more ideas or topics. i would really appreciate it. also, add on to my topics i've chosen already and give me some more reasons. thanks :)
oh and if you disagree with the topics then please state the reasons. i would love to use your opinions as my counter arguement.
