COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 2, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ –Dr. Christine Sullivan, a nationally recognized plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in breast and body procedures, uses the only breast implants manufactured in the United States — the Mentor® line of products.
Mentor makes silicone gel and saline breast implants at its 145,000 square-foot facility outside of Dallas, Texas. Mentor has manufactured breast implant devices for more than 20 years.
Dr. Sullivan has long preferred Mentor products. “It gives me and my patients great peace of mind knowing that Mentor implants are made and regulated in our own country. I treat my patients as I would my own family members, and I believe that it is important to use implants made here.” Sullivan believes that the “Made in the U.S.a.” designation symbolizes the outstanding quality and design of the implants, but more importantly feels that Mentor breast implants are an integral part of a successful surgical outcome.
Dr. Sullivan participated in the Western Institutional Review Board (WIRB) study that was instrumental in the 2006 lifting of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) restrictions on the use of silicone implants. she is one of the very few female board-certified plastic surgeons in central Ohio.
Mentor implants are used for breast augmentation and breast reconstruction surgeries. Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure performed on women in the United States, with almost 317,000 surgeries performed last year, according to statistics from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Breast reconstruction surgeries, which rebuild a breast after mastectomy or other trauma, occurred more than 96,000 times in 2011, says the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
about Dr. Sullivan: Christine Sullivan, M.D., is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. she and her husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Sullivan, in 1996 founded The Sullivan Centre, the first private ambulatory center for cosmetic surgery in central Ohio. it is located at 7706 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43235. Finding out real facts from board-certified plastic surgeons can help you make smart decisions to enhance your look.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 21, 2012
the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center will be hosting a special event on April 28th which will explore advances in cosmetic medicine.
The event, titled “Fact vs Fiction Plastic Surgery Symposium,” will be held on Saturday, April 28th at the W Hotel from 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. the symposium, which is open to the public, will be led by department chairman Dr. Rod Rohrich and vice-chairman Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel.
The symposium will feature presentations on current topics in cosmetic surgery such as rhinoplasty and facelifts, with question and answer sessions. Participants will then be able to break into smaller groups to speak informally with plastic surgeons on more specific topics. Nine Dallas plastic surgeons will participate with a wide range of experience in all aspects of plastic surgery.
This event is part of a series of events held several times a year in which the UT Southwestern plastic surgery faculty share the information on the latest surgery options and non-invasive treatments in plastic surgery while addressing myths and misconceptions about cosmetic treatments.
Dr. Rohrich believes outreach events such as this one are important to help patients make well informed choices about cosmetic surgery. “Finding out real facts from board-certified plastic surgeons can help you make smart decisions to enhance your look. It’s important to know what is safe and effective,” Dr. Rohrich explains.
Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel, currently serving as president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, warns that while cosmetic treatment options become more promising, not all of them have been thoroughly tested for safety and efficacy. “The options for non-surgical and surgical cosmetic procedures are growing. Based on our experiences and research some should be approached with caution,” says Dr. Kenkel.
Anyone interested in attending this event should RSVP by Wednesday, April 25th. Call (214) 648-7898 or email confirm(at)utsouthestern(dot)edu. there is no cost to attend but space is limited.

In the last couple of years, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian set the trend for curvy and more rounded look. While some women desire to have Pippa Middleton’s backside, board certified plastic surgeons Dr. mark Pinsky and Dr. David Lickstein noticed a surge in the number of women who opt to undergo buttock augmentation surgery to have fuller backside.
What came first, Jennifer Lopez’s big booty or women’s desire for big booties? According to plastic surgeons, the “American Idol” judge wins that philosophical debate.
“ever since Jennifer Lopez made it on the scene,” says Dr. Jeffrey Roth, a local plastic surgeon, “women really want that heart-shaped look with fullness in the upper buttock.”
In other words, just like Sir Mix-A-Lot all those years ago, they want big butts and they cannot lie.
According to figures from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Americans spent more than $31 million on buttock augmentation surgeries in 2010, a 40 percent jump from the year before. Judging from the sex symbolism of other celebrities, such as Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, the trend likely won’t go away anytime soon.
In some cases, the celebrity’s butt is as famous as the celebrity.
On her reality show “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” Kardashian’s abundant rearview is a regularly addressed topic. To dispel rumors that she underwent buttock augmentation surgery, she had an ultrasound performed at a doctor’s office. and, just before her Playboy photo shoot the reality star asserted, “I’m doing it with class ’cause I got a big ass.”
Young female viewers took note.
According to Roth, that’s a double-edged sword for plastic surgeons. Five years ago, the ideal look was that of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, the polar opposite of Kardashian’s curves. But, Hilton and Richie’s ultra-thin frames made for loads of lipo requests.
“even size ones wanted to be size zeroes,” says Roth, who refused those extreme cases. “As crazy or as unwatchable as (‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’) is, these 17-year-old girls discovered they can have curves.”
The result? Less and less lipo demand. yes, the requests for buttock augmentation surgery went up, but not enough to compensate for the lipo losses.
As it turns out, ideal candidates for buttock augmentation surgery aren’t as easy to come by as the liposuction ones. first, the patient has to be in good health. no smoking, no steroids, no other health problems. second, and this is usually the part that brings consultations to an abrupt end, big booties need not apply.
“Some of them have a big enough butt already,” Roth says. “they just want a really big butt.”
With this particular procedure, maximum results only come from the most minimum of rears. Simply put, it’s not the kind of surgery that allows for supersizing.
Luckily, there are a few famous behinds that don’t qualify as XXL, but still enjoy public accolades. Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Kate Middleton, experienced huge fanfare after donning a white clingy, sheath dress in the royal wedding. Some say her backside stole the spotlight from the bride. it even spurred its own Facebook fan page. the Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society has more than 243,000 “likes.” just as quickly as the fan page launched, so did the accusations that Pippa used padding.
Either way, butts such as Pippa’s may receive a glowing spotlight, but they aren’t the kind of butts that women willing to go under the knife covet.
“with breast surgery, they used Dolly (Parton) as a reference point or Pamela Anderson,” says Dr. Marcel Daniels. But with butts, “it’s either the Salma Hayek or the Kim Kardashian.”
Hayek is for those who want roundness, but with limitations. Kardashian is for those who don’t always know when to say when.
“Be careful what you wish for,” he says. “People need to be educated and understand these are not perfect procedures.”
Butt augmentation surgery can be performed two ways. One option is to use an implant, like with breast enhancement surgery. the second method is a fat transfer in which doctors take fat deposits from other parts of the body and use it to plump up the patient’s backside.
The problem with the implants, Daniels says, is malposition, risk of infection and it “can feel like sitting on your wallet.” the problem with fat transplants is that the outcomes can be unpredictable.
Revision rates for buttock augmentations run about 30 percent. the downside related to both options are discouraging enough for Daniels not to offer the procedure at all. it hasn’t stopped many of his peers, though.
“a lot of (plastic surgeons) treat patients like frat guys treat girls at last call,” he says. “they say whatever it takes to close the deal.”
When performed properly, Daniels says the surgery itself doesn’t pose a higher risk than other surgeries. It’s only when patients seek augmentation from makeshift operations that things can go terribly wrong.
But, as long as celebrities such as Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian continue to represent the ideal body type, women will continue coveting ample assets. and Roth, whose patients love to say “less like CoCo (as in CoCo Austin who is married to Ice-T), more like J-Lo” will continue reining them back.
It is important to find board certified plastic surgeons to handle your cosmetic procedure. a surgeon does not have to be board certified to perform a procedure. although it is not illegal, chances are you will be less than satisfied with your results. Board certified plastic surgeons go through additional education and training in order to perform their work with skill and artistry.
In this country, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, inc. is the organization that approves doctors for board certification. There are a number of requisites for this certification. in general, a doctor must have a medical license, complete additional study, take a certification exam, and show a commitment to excellence in the field.
Licensure & Professional Standing
A surgery specialist must have a medical licenses to practice. This is a basic prerequisite. You also need to be accredited and have hospital privileges with outpatient surgery centers. Lastly, you will need recommendations and peer reviews from active members from an organization sponsored by the board, such as the ASPS.
Life Long Learning and Self-Assessment
There are so many advancements in the field that it will be important to work with a surgeon who stays on top of current technology and methods. not only do plastic surgeons have to become board certified to practice, they need to re-certify themselves to stay current. Submission is required as part of cycle. in the 3, 6 and 9 of 10 year certification cycle, you must complete at least 150 Continuing Medical Education.
After you have passed the board’s examination for initial board certification, plastic surgeons are required to complete additional exams in the 8th, 9th and 10th year of the certification cycle. This exam will be reviewed and compared with your peers. in order to stay current, this exam is important to take periodically throughout their career.
Commitment to Excellence
Not only does a plastic surgeon need to hold a medical license, continue their study, and pass an exam, but the last thing that board certification requires is a commitment to excellence. Because of the nature of the industry, it is important for the reputation of the board that surgeons they certify strive to perform in their field. in an interview with a prospective surgeon, they will see how committed you are to the skill and artistry of plastic surgery.
When you choose a board certified plastic surgeon, you are getting not only a highly trained and experienced professional but someone who strives to produce the best results with every patient. in order to identify those who have this accreditation, check their website to see if they advertise that they are a board certified plastic surgeon or see if they have any professional affiliations with board sponsored organizations.
Throughout Southern California and especially in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles people are inundated with advertisements about plastic surgery. some ads depict a plastic surgeon as the top or Best Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles. others promote safe Liposuction or the newest laser that can give you phenomenal esthetic results with a few zaps during your lunch hour. With all this information how should a man or a woman go about finding the right plastic surgeon? in pursue of the best plastic surgeon should they travel to Beverly Hills or should they search the internet? Should they choose a plastic surgeon based on their credentials and degrees? after all, what do these degrees and credentials really mean?
Being a plastic surgeon who has practiced for many years in Southern California and knows many other plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, I myself was frustrated when I went about finding the right plastic surgeon for myself this is how I went about researching the best plastic surgeon for me.
First, I went to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons web site which only lists Board Certified Plastic Surgeons. the other option would be to contact the American Board of Plastic Surgery. this Board is the ONLY recognized board for training and certifying Plastic surgeons for cosmetic surgery of ALL body parts. the Board of Cosmetic surgery is not recognized Board by the American Board of Medical Specialties. its members can purchase a certificate practically after attending few limited classed without having had a broad surgical training in plastic surgery. the Board of Facial Plastic Surgery offers a certificate to ENT or Otolaryngologist whose training is limited to only that of head and neck.
Once I found the list of all Board Certified plastic surgeons throughout Southern California, including Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, I research them via the California Medical Board to find if they have had complaints or malpractices. has their medical license ever been restricted or held; and have their privileges to perform surgery at any hospital has been taken away. If a large group of doctors at a prominent hospital no longer allow a certain doctor to practice there, do you want him to practice on you
Having narrowed my list of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in Southern California, I wouldn’t just choose one from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, or Encino. after all, I am not interested in how beautiful their office looks or if their zip code say 90210. I am not interested in being on the extreme makeover or the swan TV shows. I just want the best plastic surgeon for me. in fact, I am willing to travel a bit to find the most qualified, experienced, and compassionate plastic surgeon who can understand my needs. Next, I reviewed before and after plastic surgery pictures on their internet web site photo gallery, or at their office. Although it is good to see many before and after pictures on their web sites, some plastic surgeons don’t show all their pictures on their web site, because of privacy restraints. in fact, I greatly limit the type and extent of facial pictures that I show on my web site in order to preserve my patient’s privacy.
Meet the doctor, and not just his aesthetic consultant who speaks with a fancy accent Does the cosmetic surgeon spend time with you and go over your questions or concerns. Does the plastic surgeon understand what you want, rather than what he wants? is he or she able to demonstrate to you before and after pictures of other cases similar to you? is the plastic surgeon honest with you in describing limitations, shortfalls, or even complications that he might have had on similar cases? Also, look at the support staff. Are they friendly? Are they the type of people who are going to be available to you after surgery?
Finally, don’t forget that your plastic surgeon, no matter how great, can’t perform your surgery in a virtual world. the credentials, skills, and experience of the anesthesiologist who is going to keep you alive during surgery is no less important than the skills of your plastic surgeon. most patients are not aware that some centers don’t even use an anesthesiologist, or don’t have the basic monitoring equipments. Fancy office furniture doesn’t mean that you will be also having your surgery performed at an accredited and certified Surgery Center. I personally, would not have my surgery in a surgery facility that is not accredited by AAAHC, AAAASF, or Medicare; and doesn’t have a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
Having said all this don’t make your this important decision based on advertisements, TV shows, and fads. Trust our gut instinct
Plastic surgery procedures are more popular now than ever. Not surprisingly that correlates with the many medical practitioners who are going after their share of this multi-billion dollar industry. there has been major advancements in the plastic / reconstructive and cosmetic surgery field and what can be achieved for those who want to correct deformities or enhance their appearance.
However, remember that ANY surgical procedure is a very serious undertaking and should be approached with great care. as with any decision of this magnitude, researching both procedures and possible doctors is critical to giving you the best chance for success. here are some questions that can help you in the search for a physician.
What Kind of Associations / Boards should I Look For? it should be noted that there is a difference in a ‘board-certified plastic surgeon’ and ‘plastic surgeon.’ a well-qualified plastic surgeon is a member of the American Board of Plastics Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Board-certified plastic surgeons are highly specialized surgeons that perform plastic and reconstructive procedures.
Many surgeons who are NOT board certified plastic surgeons also perform plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures. this is very common and many are very well qualified and experienced. however, for those looking for ‘reconstructive’ or other highly intricate procedures to correct a deformity, a board certified plastic surgeon is the way to go.
How can I Judge a Potential Physician’s Experience Level? The best physicians will spend a good deal of time consulting with you and providing a wealth of information about the procedure and their practice – including patient before and after pictures and testimonials. another good strategy is to speak with other doctors and nurses about a specific doctor to get their impression of that physician. Also, ask your doctor if they can utilize facilities at the local community hospital. there are many plastic surgery procedures that may require the extensive facilities the local hospital. if a surgeon does NOT have privileges at the local hospital that is a sign to do more investigation on that doctor.
Should you be Concerned if the Doctor Wants To Do the Procedure in his or Her Office? Generally no. Many physicians have the ability and equipment to handle procedures ‘in-office’ including such items as laser treatments, etc. however, as is noted above, your doctor should have the ability to utilize facilities at the local hospital for more involved procedures such as tummy tucks. For most physicians its cost-prohibitive or not feasible to have a fully equipped surgical suite (along with surgical nurses, etc.) located within their office.
What About Risks and Recovery? you should know that ALL surgery comes with both risk and recovery considerations. Your doctor should spend ample time discussing both of these items as they pertain to your desired procedure. Make sure you are fully aware of all risks and special recovery items before you commit.
Plastic Surgery can be a frightening experience. On television, you see so many disaster stories that might make you not want to go under the knife. Every surgery contains a certain amount of risk.
The majority of horror stories that you see on television are rare because most of these surgery are not performed by board certified plastic surgeons. Instead, they are usually performed in either in third world countries (where their qualification and hygiene standards are considerably lower than richer countries) or unqualified surgeons.
The types of major complications that you have to be aware of are:
Blood Loss (or Hemorrhaging)
It is normal to bleed during surgery. any opening of the skin can cause excessive bleeding if your surgeon is not careful. if you have previous history of excessive bleeding or how low hemoglobin levels (amount of blood per unit), please inform your surgeon before you operate.
Brain damage:
Brain damage can occur if either there is an excessive blood loss and therefore no nutrients to the brain or if the oxygen levels decreases to a very low level.
Blood Clot:
Whenever there is an injury to a body area, the immune system will react and try to fix and prevent that area from spreading. it does this by blocking or clotting the area. Sometimes, if the clot builds up, it can dislodge from its area and may get ‘stuck’ in different part of your circulation system. if the clot gets stuck in your brain – this can kill you or give you a major stroke.
Infections
Infections are common after surgery. Infections can be easily controlled if adequate infection control is implemented using penicillin or anti-biotic.
Airway Obstruction
If general anesthesia is performed, a tube is inserted through your throat and into your lungs. This may cause irritation of the linings of your throat and you may have difficulty in breathing as a result. Muscle spasm can occur in your vocal cords and can cause you to aspirate (vomit).
Malignant Hypothermia
In rare cases, the combination of your heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature unexpectantly rise up to extraordinary levels. if these levels are not reduced immediately, death can occur.
Decrease Blood Pressure
A decrease in blood pressure is expected during surgery. The loss of blood due to the surgery and general anesthetic medicine all contribute to your blood pressure. However, a sudden drop in your blood pressure may cause a heart attack.
In Summary, all these complication can be reduced if you follow your surgeon’s advice. for example, always eat a healthy diet, stop smoking and always exercise.

The board-certified plastic surgeons at The Wall Center in Louisiana reveal how procedures such as breast enhancement, liposuction and a tummy tuck can improve a mom's appearance as part of a Mommy Makeover.
SHREVEPORT, LA, May 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ — Dr. Simeon Wall Jr. and Dr. Holly Casey Wall, board-certified plastic surgeons at The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery (www.wallcenter.com), are seeing more women travel to the practice for Mommy Makeovers – tailored procedures that help moms achieve an improved appearance and enhanced self-esteem. They specialize in breast enhancement, tummy tucks and a special form of liposuction for Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas women, as well as women from across the country who travel to benefit from their training and experience.
"These days, so many cosmetic and plastic surgeons are marketing Mommy Makeovers," says Dr. Holly Casey Wall. "But, when you really look at it, they may just be combining a tummy tuck with breast enhancement and calling it a ‘Mommy Makeover.’ when we began crafting the concept of a Mommy Makeover at The Wall Center, we knew we wanted to do it differently, creating a very specific set of procedures and molding them for each patient."
One of the unique components of Mommy Makeovers at The Wall Center is the use of SAFELipo , a unique form of liposuction developed by Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr. that allows for dramatic and smooth results rarely seen with other available methods. SAFELipo offers women an alternative to laser, ultrasound, and other methods of liposuction that burn the body’s tissues while killing fat cells. SAFELipo can achieve smoother results without the risk of burns and other complications. Small spots or entire areas of fat on the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, knees, and arms that frustrate moms can be fine-tuned with the precision of SAFELipo . To benefit from SAFELipo liposuction, women travel to Shreveport from little Rock, Dallas and beyond.
"I can’t emphasize enough the difference that SAFELipo can make," says Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr. "The added safety this technology brings has allowed me to be much more aggressive with the other procedures I perform as part of a Mommy Makeover, and the results really speak for themselves. I really do tailor each person’s surgeries to her specific needs and body type. other procedures that are frequently included in a Mommy Makeover can include: tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, and facial rejuvenation. for instance, I personalize tummy tuck surgery in Louisiana, giving women the option of several different types of abdominoplasty with or without liposuction, depending on their needs."
Dr. Wall urges women considering plastic surgery after childbirth to carefully assess the credentials of their plastic surgeon. "Satisfaction with your Mommy Makeover clearly hinges on surgeon skill and experience, but it also requires your surgeon to have an understanding of each patient’s problems and desires," he explainsl. "You’ll be talking about very personal details, so you need to feel comfortable and supported. That’s why I encourage women to select their plastic surgery practice very carefully."
The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery (www.wallcenter.com) is comprised of 3 board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Simeon Wall, Sr., Dr. Holly Wall, and Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr. They have over 50 years of combined experience in plastic surgery, and are known for their expertise in cosmetic surgery of the breast, body, and face. They perform over 700 breast augmentations and over 2000 cosmetic surgery procedures per year, and have consistently been selected as "top Plastic Surgeons" by their peers and consumer groups alike. their commitment to outstanding results has been highlighted by their patients’ satisfaction with "no visible scar" breast augmentations, "short scar" breast lift procedures, and their dramatic "mommy makeovers" with SAFELipo . The Wall Center attracts patients from across the South, predominantly from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma. Dr. Simeon Wall, Sr., has been a fixture of the Ark-La-Tex for over 30 years and has established a national and international clientele. all 3 physicians have made it a priority to volunteer their time to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries for needy children. Dr. Wall, Sr., headed the North Louisiana Crippled Children’s Program for the Dept. of Health & Hospitals for 25 years. Drs. Holly and Simeon Wall, Jr., volunteer for the philanthropic organization Interplast in less-developed parts of the world, including trips to China, Peru, Brazil, Haiti, and Mexico. Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr., developed the SAFELipo technique of liposuction and body contouring, frequently lecturing and teaching SAFELipo techniques both nationally and internationally. Both Dr. Holly Wall and Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr., performed their general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at Stanford University, one of the most highly respected plastic surgery programs in the country. They are Fellows of the American College of Surgeons and are active members of both the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr., is the President of the Louisiana Society of Plastic Surgeons, and Dr. Holly Wall currently serves as the group’s Vice-President.
