Don't Give Me Those Sad Puppy Dog Eyes! ~ Plastic Surgery

Whoever said pain is beauty never met Roland, an orphaned shar pei from Australia who’s wrinkled skin results in the painful condition Entropion.

Entropion causes the breed’s wrinkles to invert their eyelashes and rub against the eyeballs, can potentially cause blindness if the condition goes untreated.

The cosmetic surgery was $897.00 and specifically Roland received a full face lift and a double eye lift. During the procedure, skin from across the dog’s forehead and between his eyes is removed, and the remaining skin is pulled together and sutured.

Wide eyed and bushy tailed, this adorable puppy is still in search of a new owner, but I am sure someone will rescue this little cute canine real soon!

Plagued with alopecia and really want eyebrows and eyelashes?

I was wondering if there are any naturally looking false eyebrows good for people with my condition. I've tried false eyelashes, but they need existing lashes to hold them up. What are my options besides surgery?

You should be able to put false eyelashes on without having to actually have an exisitng lash. you want to make sure you're using a high quality, alcohol free glue when putting them on. It takes a bit to figure it out, but it does work! =) As for eyebrows, I'm not quite sure. you could always pencil them on, if you do it the right way it wont look back. other then using false eyelashes and penciling in eyebrows, there's not much else you can do unless you want to get actual surgery. Good Luck! =)

Hey
this is just things ive herd/ read in magazines, but you could try using individual lashes….apparently your lid gets pricked and a lash is planted? or maybe its a myth.. you could check it out?

as for eyebrows, my auntie has no natural ones… at first she used to draw with fine brow pencils…that didnt work out great, so she got eyebrows tatood on, she had to have it done twice to add definition but it looks good, also, when she wants extra definition she lines it and sometimes even draws a few on to make them lifelike….
If you do get them tattood on, be sure you go to a good/trusted place, we havea family friend who does beauty treatments, but get someone whos certified or whatever tattoo artists get?

good luck!

Hi, I am also suffering from alopecia myself and purchased some really great natural eyebrows from an eBay seller… shayc01. I live by them and LOVE THEM! She is selling them for about 17.00 as compared to other sites that have reached to 34.00… not reasonable! they are attached with an adhesive called spirit gum and they can be used over and over again. I love them because they are human hair, can be cut, dyed, etc….. they look like hair coming from my skin. anyhow I hope this helps!

Those Sexy Lashes That Hurt

Nature has designed us for efficiency and effectiveness. We have body hair to keep us warm, nose hair to filter out debris and eye lashes for protection. the lashes have become more then just feelers and filters for many folks. There are those that apply false eyelashes, some use mascara and others make up to extend and fill them out.

Recently there is a topical glaucoma medication that has been ‘off-labeled’ approved to enhance eyelash growth and thickness, Latisse. while Latisse can improve the appearance of one’s lashes, a change in their growth pattern or in them turning inward can result. Trichiasis is a condition whereby the eyelashes grow inward toward the cornea. When this occurs there is an increased predilection for them to rub against the eye resulting in scratches on the cornea, pain and even scarring if left untreated.

Regardless of how eyelashes are managed, occasional discomfort upon blinking is a result of these lashes rubbing against the cornea. Careful examination is required to determine if this is the case. the most often employed treatment is called Epilation. This is simply plucking out the offending lashes so they do not damage the cornea. Frequently, the patient must return every several months for additional Epilation, to eliminate the offending source. in some cases when there are many lashes growing in, a bandage contact lens must be worn in addition to the lash removal.

In short, if you feel a foreign body sensation upon blinking, see your eye doctor because some lashes may have to be epilated.

Race for eyelash thickener crashes Boots website

Popular: Debenhams has reported a 1,000 per cent increase in the sales of false eyelashes in the last year

When it comes to a woman’s eyelashes, fashion dictates that big and batable is best.

But it seems the popularity of false eyelashes has fuelled an unwelcome side effect.

The news comes after thousands of women crashed the Boots website as they clamoured to get hold of a new ‘miracle’ eyelash thickener.

Growing numbers of women are turning to hair transplant surgery after damaging their natural lashes through repeat use of false ones and extensions, experts said.

A specialist in intricate hair transplant surgery has been approached by more and more young female patients left with a bald patch on their eyelid.

The glue used to fix the lashes can pull natural eyelashes out as the fake set is removed, and if repeated frequently can stop hair growing.

Such is the popularity of false eyelashes – sported by celebrities from Cheryl Cole to Katie Price – that some women wear up to three pairs at the same time for maximum impact.

Dr Bessam Farjo, of the Manchester-based Farjo Medical Centre, said: ‘We’re seeing a significant number of enquiries from patients who have suffered from damage caused by repeatedly wearing false eyelashes.

‘As with any hair follicle, eyelashes will cease to grow if they are repeatedly plucked out at the root.

‘Hair transplant surgery may seem like an extreme solution, but in many cases it’s the only way to restore hair permanently,’ he said.

Denver, Aurora, Englewood, Colorado Refractive Surgery – Blog

We have signed on with Allergan Pharmaceuticals to dispense Latisse for our patients in Denver, Centennial, Aurora and from Colorado Springs and Fort Collins who wish to have longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes.  We have received numerous requests from existing patients to offer this product, and although it does not have the "gravity" of LASIK or laser vision correction, it is something that many of our female patients have been requesting.  since Latisse can only be prescribed by medical doctors (MD) and not optometrists (OD) we are also providing this for patients referred by our network of co-managing Optometrists.  Tomorrow I am going for my weekly segment on the Tom Martino show on Channel 31 and channel 2 in Denver, to introduce our Latisse program, and to discuss and answer question live on air about this new product.  I think that once patients have their vision corrected, and no longer have their eyes hidden behind glasses, they are more concerned about their appearance and the thought of improved eyelashes is very appealing.

Latisse is the same pharmaceutical as Lumigan is a drug used to treat a medical eye condition called Glaucoma.  It was noted when patients with glaucoma (high eye pressure leading to eye damage) where treated with Lumigan that they started growing longer and thicker eyelashes as a side effect.  Latisse is the exact same medication (brimatoprost 0.03% is the generic name) but it is applied to the base of the eyelashes to enhance the effect on the lashes while minimizing the effect on the eye itself.

A few things to know or be aware of before considering using Latisse.  First of all you do not want to be pregnant or nursing since there could be some unwanted transfer of product to unborn or newborns with unknown effects.  Second, you do not want to have glaucoma since it could confuse the treatment of your glaucoma if you have this condition.  third, there can be some increased pigmentation of the colored part of the eye, the iris which may be irreversible.  this is most of concern in those with either green or hazel eyes, blue eyed or brown eyed people are not likely a concern.  about 3%-4% of patients experience some degree of irritation of their lids or eyes (about one in 25) so if this occurs one would not want to use the product.  Finally there is some increased pigmentation possible of the skin around the base of the eyelids, which can be enhancing to the effect, is reversible, but might be a concern.

Because this is a medical treatment, even though cosmetic, we at Dishler LASIK want to have each patient evaluated and educated before prescribing for the first time but we provide these evaluations at no charge at this time.  the medication costs about $120 per box and we are dispensing it directly to patients.  By labeling 1 box should last about 1 month, but there is the opportunity to extend this considerably and we can discuss this during your consultation.

If you are a LASIK patient, we do not know how long after your procedure to wait before using this medication, but we are suggesting a 3 month period to stop it after LASIK to be on the safe side.

My understanding is that virtually 100% of patients using this product experience longer, thicker and darker lashes within 6-8 weeks of using it once per night.  the product is applied only to the base of the upper lashes, and some transfers to the lower lashes automatically.  Once the desired effect is achieved, the frequency can be reduce to just a few times per week for maintenance.

Allergan has a nice website, latisse.com and I would recommend anyone considering this treatment to visit their site for further information which is available on both the public and the professional part of the website.

We have been trained to treat patients with Botox as an additional cosmetic improvement product also by Allergan, but have not found much demand for this from our patient population.  We are not sure what the demand for Latisse will be, but I am amazed with the statistic that women in the United States spend over 1 billion dollars a year on mascara products alone and this suggests that a more natural hair growth solution might be desirable to a large number of our patients.  I also understand that this same product will grow eyelashes in patients who have thin or loss of eyelashes and on carefully considered cases we may try this on an off label basis with proper informed consent.

If you live in Denver and have considered our practice for LASIK or PRK which is what we are best known for, please be aware that there is this new product called LATISSE, it is FDA approved for treatment of eyelashes, and that we are a professional site you can consider to receive this product.  Several of our staff are going to start using this on their own eyes (most of them actually) and will be available to discuss their own experiences with you.

Also, if you have any comments, experiences, or comments about Latisse, please use this blog to comment below and share your findings with our other patients.  Thanks!
