Chris Brown Rooting for Rihanna and Drake at VMAs

Chris Brown and Drake definitely have a history, and it’s a troubled one to say the least. nevertheless, CB is reportedly rooting for Drake to win at the VMAs on Sept 6. Why? It’s because he’s still in love with Rihanna.

Yes, rumor has it that despite the big, bad brawl between CB and the Young Money star, mr. Breezy is supporting Rihanna and hoping she’ll win for her collaborations with Drake.

“It’s all business and Chris wants [Rihanna] to be successful and on top of her game – always,” claims an insider. “He got mad love for her, and if she and [Drake] win, of course [he's going to] support Rihanna because she’s on the track. He’s hoping she wins…he wants nothing but the best for that girl.”

Hmmm. very noble. But if Chris Brown really wants the best for his ex-lady-love, he should lose her phone number and then go away and leave her alone. oh well, love is blind. And deaf. And definitely dumb. Meanwhile, Rihanna has received an incredible ten VMA nominations, including “Video of the Year, Best Female Video, and Best Pop Video.”

Everybody else, stay tuned.

Khloe Kardashian Says She’s Up for Hosting the ‘X Factor’

Answering rumors that she’s being considered as a host for the X Factor, Khloe Kardashian says she’s up for the job. “I’m a big fan…,” she told E! News.

Of course Ms. Kardashian isn’t the only person under consideration. A former Pussycat Doll and George Clooney’s leading lady—Stacey Keibler—are a couple of other names bandied about.

“I’ve always wanted to do hosting or talk show hosting,” Khloe claims. “So it is definitely something I would love to do and would be honored to do.” she went on to add that she’d have a lot of fun being involved with such a hit show.

What Kardashian didn’t do, however, is address whether she’s actually in meetings with the show’s powers-that-be. but she’s apparently not the least bit intimidated of head judge, Simon Cowell.

“I love Simon,” she purred. “I think he’s amazing.” she went to explain that she doesn’t have a problem with people telling it like it is. she respects that kind of straight forward approach.

She has a point too. Cowell is often brutally honest, but at least he’s truthful about what he feels. he doesn’t talk down to the contestants or treat them like they don’t have thick enough skin to deal with reality. They must have that if they want to make it in show business.

As for Khloe Kardashian herself, she’s a bit of both sides of the coin. One can see her being supportive and helpful with the young singers. One can also see her letting them have it when they screw up. in that respect, she might bring a new depth to the hosting gig; assuming of course she gets the opportunity.

Glasses that add Instagram effects to real life: The ultimate hipster eyewear?

A new pair of glasses will allow hipsters to add Instagram effects to the real world – as if seeing the retro-tinted pictures all over Facebook wasn’t enough.

The glasses, designed by German Markus Gerke, would have a five-megapixel sensor built in, and would add filter effects using built-in computer.

The concept comes in the wake of computer glasses from Google, Olympus and Epson.

‘You activate the glasses by pushing ‘Insta’ and choosing between different filters. Just take a picture with your glasses and upload the image straight to Instagram,’ says Gerke.

Das ist cool, ja? the glasses, designed by German Markus Gerke, would have a five-megapixel sensor built in, and would add filter effects using built-in computer

Insta-matic: the concept comes in the wake of computer glasses from Google, Olympus and Epson

‘Many people use Instagram,’ says Gerke, ‘They all love the effects, and every one of them loves to take pictures and to share them with their friends. Wouldn’t it be great to capture your everyday life, your entire life, through beautiful filters?’

Gerke’s idea is only a concept – but not a far-fetched one.

Tech site the Register said that momentum is gathering behind the idea of ‘wearable computers.’

‘WithOlympus, Google and Apple involved in the area you can bet your last dollar other companies are looking into it too,’ said the site’s Chris Mellor.

Apple filed a patent referring to, ‘Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for projecting a source image in a head-mounted displayapparatus for a user.’

Olympus is to release a pair of ‘techno-glasses’ that put a computer display directly in front of your eyes – and can also make the world itself look cheerier by turning up the brightness.

The world, just trendier: Gerke’s idea is only a concept – but not a far-fetched one

Olympus’s glasses link to a smartphone via Bluetooth to display information such as emails – they also have built-in GPS and an accelerometer to deliver mapping information

Olympus’s glasses – at the prototype stage at present – are lightweight, battery-powered and last for a reported eight hours.

Theglasses have a GPS system and accelerometer built in, which could be used to deliver information about the local area direct to their 320x240display.

A small projector displays an image in front of the wearer’s eyes while letting them stay aware on the outside world.

Google’s Project Glass glasses are designed to let userscapture video with a built-in camera as well as use apps, the internet, and social networking sites on the move.

Experience:Google has already released a sneak-peak at the user-interface for the Glass, which broadcasts data directly in front of the eye, bypassing cell phones

The demonstration shows off a weather forecast layered over a view of the world

The demonstration shows off navigation information similar to what Google currently offers via its Maps service

The idea is to bypass computers, tablets and smartphones entirely and keep the user connected in a (fairly) discreet way.

With the glasses, directions to your destination or a text message from a friend can appear literally before your eyes.

Younger boyfriend wants 76-year-old to get eyelift

Q. This may sound crazy to you but I’ll go ahead anyway. I am 76 and my younger boyfriend wants me to do my eyes. we have been dating for six months and he feels that I would look younger if I had surgery. What is your suggestion and do you think this is a crazy idea?

the short answer is: Wow, that’s great!

now for my more logical, thoughtful answer. there are several important factors you should consider. first, he may not be your permanent boyfriend , so your decision to have surgery should come from within. If you do not want it or do not feel comfortable having surgery, you should not have it. I find that patients who have surgery because someone else “forces’’ it on them are never really happy.

second, you should have a complete evaluation of your health. thus, if you wish to have surgery, you are not taking unnecessary risks.

Now, let’s assume love is in the air, you want to have the surgery and you are in great health. how should you go about selecting your surgeon for this procedure?

While you are considering this procedure for cosmetic purposes, it may actually be a functional procedure. In some cases, patients have a loss of vision because of excess skin over their eyelids. If that is the case, your insurance company may cover your procedure. To determine this, you would have to have a visual field exam.

If you have determined that you do not have a visual field loss, but you still want to bring that twinkle back to your eyes, whom should you pick to do your surgery?

Blepharoplasty, or eye lift, is performed by various doctors. You should pick a board-certified facial plastic, plastic, oculo-plastic surgeon or ophthalmologist. ask where the doctor performs the surgeries, who does the anesthesia, what type of anesthesia will be used and if the facility is certified by a certifying agency. ask to see before and after pictures to determine if you like the outcome of other patients.

It is imperative that you pick a surgeon who performs many blepharoplasty procedures. Discuss with your prospective surgeon the risks of surgery and ask specifically what problems he or she has had in the past.

Surgery at your age can be a wonderful and safe experience when approached in a rational manner.

Golden years’ black cloud

I’ve been thinking a lot about age this week because a friend of mine recently retired. my golden years are still a way off, so it’s hard to imagine what it would be like to not have a work routine any more, or how it would feel to receive your last pay cheque (frightening if you aren’t financially prepared).

But I imagine that there are some positives, like never having to go to another meeting or having to deal with that ubiquitous difficult workmate, who seems to exist in every office around the world.

Of course, there are some days, after being up all night with a sick child, for instance, when I’d love nothing more than not to have to stress about heading into the office. Or to wile away my days doing what I want to do, rather than doing what somebody else wants me to do. But those wistful moments are more the exception than the rule.

Growing old, like death and taxes (except here, of course), as the saying goes, is a fact of life. Rich or poor, there’s no escaping it, even if you have splurged on plastic surgery, Botox and fillers in an attempt to fool everybody that you are much younger than you really are.

As if growing old and facing retirement is not enough to contend with, it seems there are some other issues our “older” counterparts also have to experience as they wind down their careers and financial responsibilities, such as finally paying off the mortgage.

Take my recently retired friend. he arrived in the UAE two years ago to take up a job that would mark the final chapter in his career. when he arrived, he had to open a bank account for his salary to be transferred into, just like what every expat has to do when they arrive here.

But when it came to getting a credit card with that account, he had a much different experience from the rest of us simply because of his age.

It didn’t matter that he had a job and a steady income. His age – at the time, he was 63 – was a barrier and the bank was firm.

My friend takes up the story.

“A representative of the bank came to my office and helped me and two other new colleagues open accounts. he completed the paperwork for them to receive credit cards, but turned to me and said I couldn’t have one.

“‘You’re over 60,’ he said. in fact, I had turned 63.

“‘What does that have to do with whether I can get a credit card?’ I asked.

“‘It’s the law,’ he said. ‘The government doesn’t want people over 60 getting credit cards.’

“‘But young people are the ones who don’t pay their credit-card bills. old people always pay their bills. That doesn’t make sense.’

“I pestered the bank for a few weeks and finally a representative said I could have a card if I opened a special account and put Dh20,000 [US$5,444] in it. I said that was fine with me and I got the credit card, which I used for almost two years.

“I believe there was a Dh15,000 limit on the card. Whatever I owed on the card was automatically paid out of the Dh20,000 account. in turn, money from my regular account was regularly transferred to the credit-card account so that it was kept near the Dh20,000 required amount.

“I am now leaving the UAE and was settling up at my bank the other day. I had to fill out special paperwork to close the credit-card account. the bank representative serving me said, ‘the age limit is now 65′.

“He smiled and said he had no idea why they had raised the age limit.”

I’ve since learnt that there is a phrase for what my friend experienced with his bank. It’s called ageism and banking. And it means that older people are penalised by banks and financial institutions when it comes to credit and loans because of their age.

It doesn’t seem to matter if they have a regular income. the practice happens in many parts of the world, but is not limited to the banking sector; insurance companies are also averse to the older policyholder.

In a world where many governments are revising up the official retirement age of their citizens because they can’t afford for them to enjoy their golden years while they are still able to, it seems that many sectors, including banks, are way off the mark with their ageist policies.

If people are going to be forced to work into their 70s, then cutting off access to credit and other loan vehicles in their 60s is short-sighted, more so when so many banks are struggling to make a profit these days.

My friend is right. Older people always pay their bills.

And that, I believe, makes them worth banking on.

He said: ‘With success coming early I missed out on all that. Falling out of a nightclub in Las Vegas is my idea of backing. Saying that, it’s something I’d like to do in the future. I’m looking forward to visiting some of the countries I’ve fallen in love with and seeing them properly.’

REVIEW: Seeking A Friend At The End Of The World (15)

Photo: Thinkjam

What would you do if you knew the world would end in three weeks? go on a hedonistic drink, drugs and sex bender? Spend time with the person you love more than any other? Search out your family or the one you lost and can’t get over?

These are the questions that face Dodge Peterson (Steve Carell) in Lorne Scafaria’s ‘Seeking A Friend at the End Of the World’ when a shuttle mission to save the world from an asteroid fails, leaving the entirety of humanity knowing that certain doom, and his wife finally discovering the courage to leave a loveless marriage.

The way the film depicts a world struggling to come to terms with its fate is superb, and you’d imagine quite realistic. A scene where some of the workers turn up at work in the absence of knowing quite what else to do is incredibly funny, topped off by them being asked if anyone wants a promotion due to the implied suicides of senior staff.

Similarly a family dinner party that escalates into a drunken drug induced orgy beautifully imagines the way that some would react to certain death. Hedonism; but with enough suburban uncertainty to make it utterly comic. A decision to get a dentist to administer heroin in particular sums up the clueless debauchery.

The film’s premise meant that its set-up could have failed in one of two ways, either by leaning too far towards the comic and turning an intriguing situation into an excuse for silliness, or by being too pretentious and stifling any humour. ‘Seeking A Friend at the End Of the World’ does neither, using mankind’s various neuroses to get audiences laughing, but with a knowing recognition that if the worst were to happen it’s probably not too far from the truth.

Carell is brilliant as Dodge, with his character being utterly miserable but too fundamentally decent to throw in the towel and join in the orgies going on around him, desperate for something to make his remaining days on Earth meaningful.

Into Dodge’s life comes Penny (Keira Knightley), a wayward neighbour whose chaotic love life masks an underlying desire to be with her family, and recover her romantic dreams that have been destroyed by the reality that the men in her life are utterly useless.

After the discovery that Penny has kept a letter from Dodge’s long lost love by mistake, they set out on an Odyssey to find Dodge’s sweetheart and a plane to fly Penny home to her family. Predictably it doesn’t go to plan as the nature of Hybrid cars, a suicidal trucker, an orgy obsessed fast food chain and overzealous policeman all strive to destroy the pair’s remaining hopes of emotional fulfilment.

Knightley for once is excellent as Penny, her naughty head girl act perfect for the role, and strangely the chemistry between her and Carell is believable as a pair desperately looking for different types of emotional closure before they die.

The scenes between them meditate on the nature of love, and why each made their decisions that led to them losing the one thing they wanted.Penny’s hopeless romanticism taking her away from a family that is all she truly ever wanted, Dodge’s fear of making the wrong choice leading him into a life where every choice isn’t what he wants.

There’s also some rumination on different types of love and the feelings each have ; Penny’s pure love for her family and romantic idealism, Dodge’s feelings of duty and love for the woman who he feels he should have spent his life with, and the burgeoning relationship between Penny and Dodge themselves.

There are a couple of issues with the film, although its second half is touching it rather forgets that it’s still a comedy as well as a meditation on the nature of love, meaning that it fails to fully achieve the potential of its genuinely hilarious first half.

It would be churlish to criticise the film too much for turning on the predictable schmaltz towards the end, it is after all what many will be paying for, but it does feel slightly at odds with what’s gone before. A decent soundtrack spawned by Penny’s love of records stops things getting out of hand, but the gentle musings on the different types of love and their importance are swept aside by an old fashioned version of the true love conquers all story, that may bring a tear to the eye but not quite satisfy the soul.

‘Seeking A Friend at the End Of the World’ is by no means perfect, but it’s an honourable attempt at a grown-up romantic comedy which uses its premise to go into less traditional territory than most of the genre, and for that it should be praised.

KFVS12 News & Weather Cape Girardeau, Carbondale, Poplar BluffLove qualifies for spot in his 23rd US Open

By RUSTY MILLERAP Sports Writer

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (AP) – Davis Love III is going back to the Olympic Club for the U.S. Open, this time as the 48-year-old Ryder Cup captain and not the reigning PGA champion.

Even more stunning is that Casey Martin and his cart will be there, too.

A full day of U.S. Open qualifying on Monday ended in Oregon with Martin, now the 40-year-old golf coach at Oregon, making a 5-foot par putt on his last hole to earn a spot next week at Olympic, where in 1998 he tied for 23rd while riding in a cart. Martin has a rare circulatory disorder in his right leg, and he eventually won his lawsuit against the PGA Tour to ride.

“It means a lot,” Martin said, who is canceling plans to go to North Carolina on a recruiting trip.

Love qualified for the U.S. Open for the third time in the last six years with a 139 at Scioto Country Club and Ohio State's Scarlet course.

Love, who finished tied for 16th at the Memorial on Sunday, said it never crossed his mind to just bag it and go home rather than extend an already long week by playing 36 more holes.

“No. Like last year, statistically I hit the ball well enough at the U.S. and the British to win,” he said. “I definitely want to play.”

The 48-year-old Love has won 20 tournaments around the world, including the 1997 PGA Championship. he was among 16 players to qualify from the biggest of the 11 sectional qualifying sites across the country on Monday.

One of them won't even get started until Tuesday. there was so much rain in Memphis, Tenn., that no one played more than a few minutes. USGA officials hope the course is dry enough to squeeze in 36 holes.

The U.S. Open is June 14-17 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, and the 48-year-old Love will be making his 23rd appearance in his national open. others who qualified from Scioto and Scarlet included medalist Charlie Wi, Kevin Streelman, D.A. Points, Rod Pampling and Steve Marino, who only last week returned from a four-month break to recovery from a bad shoulder.

Love still hasn't forgotten the details from a year ago, however, when he three-putted the last hole he played at Colonial that cost him an automatic spot in the Open at Congressional. he had to go through qualifying to get in the field.

“I seem to play well in the qualifying because I don't have a scoreboard to look at,” he said. “You just play.”

Love has been in captain mode off and on since being selected for the matches this fall. he has been assessing potential players for the American side and has played with several. one of them, former British Open champ Ben Curtis, was in his threesome on Monday, although Curtis faded on his second 18 and failed to make the Open field.

Perhaps the biggest cheer of the day came as darkness was falling at Scioto Country Club.

On the fourth playoff hole to decide the last qualifiers, 42-year-old Youngstown, Ohio, teaching pro Dennis Miller's 20-foot putt from the fringe stopped on the lip of the cup. after the gallery of a few hundred groaned and Miller slowly started to walk to his ball, if fell – touching off a huge celebration.

Now Miller, a third alternate whose name did not even appear on the tee sheet, will be playing in his first U.S. Open – and will likely have to get someone to fill in for him back at the course at Mill Creek Metroparks in Youngstown.

“I can't believe what just happened,” Miller said. “That was pretty incredible.”

Most of the rest of the field in the qualifier in suburban Columbus, Ohio, was filled with touring pros who had just competed in the nearby Memorial.

Among those who did not qualify were two of the contenders at Jack Nicklaus' tournament.

Rory Sabbatini had the lead with four holes left on Sunday but was overtaken when Tiger Woods birdied three holes, including the 16th on an improbable 50-foot chip-in from thick grass behind the green.

Spencer Levin led going into the final round at Muirfield Village and was still atop the leaderboard with nine holes left but fell apart on the back nine with three bogeys and a double-bogey in a 75.

Sabbatini shot a 70 in his first 18 at Scarlet, but sagged to a 76 in the afternoon to fall short. Levin, who could have earned an automatic berth in the Open had he finished in the top two instead of tying for fourth at the Memorial, followed a 72 at Scioto with a 74 at Scarlet.

Levin still has a chance to make the U.S. Open if he can crack the top 60 in the world after this week.

Wi was the medalist by three strokes. he opened with a 7-under-par 65 at Scarlet and followed up with a 67 at Scioto.

“This is only my second one. It's not easy to get in,” said Wi, a South Korean native who grew up in California. His only previous appearance was at Bethpage Black three years ago. “I always flew home Sunday night because if I missed (in the qualifier) I was already home. this worked out better. I took the strategy that if I missed I'd be home for two weeks. That's probably not a good strategy.”

But it worked out fine.

In other qualifiers Monday:

- At Rockville, Md., Shane Bertsch was medalist and received one of seven spots at Woodmont Country Club. Bertsch has played only one other U.S. Open in his career, which also was at Olympic Club in 1998 when he missed the cut. Also qualifying were Michael Thompson (142), Paul Claxton (143), Cole Howard (143), Darron Stiles (143), Nicholas Thompson (143) and Jeff Curl (143). Howard and Thompson were alternates out of 18-hole local qualifying last month.

Curl is the son of Rod Curl, the first full-blooded Native American to win a PGA Tour event.

- At Glen Ellyn, Ill., Tim Herron grabbed one of two spots available at Village Links. Herron tied for 53rd in the '98 U.S. Open the last time it was played at Olympic.

- At Lecanto, Fla., Scott Langley made it through local and sectional qualify for the second time in three years. Langley made his U.S. Open debut as an amateur at Pebble Beach in 2010 and tied for 16th to share low-amateur honors. Brooks Koepka earned the last spot in a playoff over 14-year-old Andy Zhang of China, who was bidding to become the youngest ever in the U.S. Open.

- At Springfield, Ohio, Brice Garnett was medalist and earned one of two spots from Springfield Country Club. it will be his first PGA Tour-sanctioned event.

- At Canoe Brook in New Jersey, all four spots went to players who had to make it through 18-hole local qualifying and 36-hole sectional qualifying. Leading the way was Cameron Wilson, an amateur who shot 65 on the North course in the afternoon.

- At Houston, Bob Estes returns to the U.S. Open for only the second time in the last five years. Estes shot 138 at Lakeside Country Club to get one of three spots. Alistair Presnell of Australia and Brian Rowell earned the last two spots in a 4-for-2 playoff. Jordan Spieth, whose Texas Longhorns won the NCAA title on Sunday in Los Angeles, missed a 5-foot birdie putt in the playoff and was eliminated.

- In Suwanee, Ga., Jason Bohn was the medalist and got one of three spots. one of others went to Casey Wittenberg, a former U.S. Amateur runner-up still trying to reach the PGA Tour.

- In Creswell, Ore., Martin finished in the dark to earn medalist honors. the other spot will be decided in a playoff Tuesday morning between Daniel Miernicki and Nick Sherwood.
