5 Natural Ways to Relieve and Prevent Anxiety

1. Simplify your life

Life doesn’t have to be as complicated as a lot of people make it out to be. It’s easy to get stressed out by other people’s expectations of you, I recommend only worrying about how you feel about yourself. Live by your own values and virtues. I’m not condoning you be lazy and parasitical, but take care of yourself before you take care of others while sticking to your morals. if you’re a perfectionist try not to dedicate unreasonable amounts of time to menial tasks, it’s only going to hurt you later. I’ll make another post that goes further into this later because this can be elaborated on a lot.

Meditation is a practice of concentrated focus upon a sound, object, visualization, the breath, movement, or attention itself in order to increase awareness of the present moment, reduce stress, promote relaxation, and enhance personal and spiritual growth. Meditating allows you to connect with deepest inner self, to turn off all the noise around you and truly change your whole perspective on your current emotions and thoughts. sometimes when people are anxious they want to continue the cycle, lashing out in anger, or feeling self-pity. Meditation forces one to relax and look at things from a more rational, calm standpoint.

Exercise has great value in reducing and preventing anxiety because it increases the activity of serotonin in your brain. an increase in the amount of serotonin in your brain directly correlates to a decrease in anxiety, the same reason why many anxiety patients improve after taking (SSRI) medication. the most beneficial exercise for this purpose is cardiovascular exercise. this can include but are not limited to: Jogging, Power-walking, Swimming, Cycling, Walking, or even playing sports. Exercise should be a big part of everyone’s life because it has many benefits that are not even related to anxiety reduction

4. ask for Help

It’s many people’s job to relieve the stress of others. besides talking to a loving family member who can help you through anything you’re currently up against, there are many professionals who can help. Natural Medicine doctors can help determine your personal nutritional needs to help your anxiety. Massage Therapists are taught how to help people reach a state of deep relaxation. I’ve also heard many great things about Acupuncture. if you’re a very spiritual person you might want to consider looking into Reiki. (Energy Therapy)

5. Natural Supplements

Valerian – this is an herb that is widely used in Europe to relieve stress and insomnia.

Saint John’s Wort – this is a very well-known herb that has a long history of use. it can be used to treat depression and anxiety (although it has more of an impact on depression)

Vitamins- Just by having a good habit of taking your multi-vitamins you can help promote good health and thus reduce stress and anxiety.

Gamma Amino Butyric Acid – this is a naturally occurring neurotransmitter in the brain, it helps reduce anxiety by reducing excess neurotransmitter activity in parts of your brain that involve anxiety.

Omega-3s – Omega fatty acids help promote good brain health, it also has been proven to increase the rate of regeneration of damaged nerve cells.

Background:Aging of the face and neck is not gender selective, men have it happen just like women. but there is a clear difference in the numbers of facelifts done in men vs. women with far fewer being done in men. There are numerous reasons for the relative low incidence of facelifts in men including better tolerance and acceptance as they age and concerns about the recovery and if their appearance and scars will be noticeable after surgery.

While the basic concepts of a facelift in a man do not differe from that of a woman, there are numerous important technical differences that do affect the result and patient satisftaction. first, most men do not want a dramatic change in their appearance.in essence, they do not a windswept jawline look and a result that appears overdone. such a change can ‘feminiize’ a man’s lower facial appearance. Fortunately this is actually difficult to achieve because of the thickness and heaviness of male tissues. They simply do not move as much and are more prone to some rebound relaxation.

Secondly, and of equal importance, is the management of the incisions and closure around the ears. the telltale signs of having had a facelift are mostly about the lack of visible disturbance of the hairline around the ears. in men a primary focus and management decision is whether to place the incision in front of or behind the tragus of the ear. as there is a natural non-hair bearing area between the ear and the beard skin, one approach preserves it (incision in front of the ear) while the other (incision behind the tragus) has the potential to move beard skin onto the ear. For this reason, the traditional approach has been to keep the incision in front of the ear for men.

Case Study: this 65 year-old male wanted to improve his jowls and slightly sagging neck. he also did not like the downturning of the corners of his mouth which gave him a constant frowning look. he had never had any prior facial surgery, except for blepharoplasties, and he was aging muchbetter than many. he wanted a natural look, a quick recovery, and did not want any visible scars. (who doesn’t?) he was planning on returning to work in a bank five days after surgery.

Under general anesthesia, he underwent a limitedfacelift (neck-jowl lift) using a retrotragal inicision in front of the ear and sulcus-restricted incision on the back of the ear. he had a SMAS plication done. While working on the right of his face (the left side was done first), a large hematoma developed on the left side. After completing the right side, the left side was reopened and the bleeder cauterized and reclosed. the skin pull was largely vertical with some superolateral component, but this enabled excess to be removed and did not bring beard skin back onto the ear. the natural non-hair bearing distance between the ear and the beard skin was reduced by about half. No drains were used.

His postoperative course was uncomplicated and his circumferential neck dressing was removed the next day with no hematoma. he did return to work five days later. by three weeks after surgery, his incisions were virtually non-detectable (which is highly unusual)

This type of facelift is really more of a mini- or limited type. it is exactly what he needed given his more limited neck and jowl sagging. While an incision could have been used in front of the ear, the amount of skin movement made it possible to use a retrotragal approach without significant beard skin displacement. the amount of change was also not as dramatic and achieved his natural after surgery look.

·Facelifting in men is different because of their beard skin considerations around the ear and their concern about postoperative recovery and perception.

·Management of the beard skin around the ear in makle facelifts is critical and it is always best to preserve a non-hairbearing area between the ear and the beard skin, even if the amount of neck and jowl tightening is less.

·Because of their beard skin, men are more prone to hematoma complications after facelift surgery.
