A Neck Lift Can Take Years Off Your Appearance

A neck lined with wrinkles and sagging skin is a dead give away of your age. even if you have a young looking face, this part of your body will betray your years to on-lookers. A neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure that can restore the youthful appearance to your sagging muscles.

A neck lift is also called a cervicoplasty and involves the removal of sagging skin and the tightening and repositioning of the neck muscles or platysma. It is often combined with other plastic surgery operations like face lifts, brow lifts, forehead lifts or other facial enhancements.

During this two to three hour plastic surgery procedure, the surgeon will make an incisions underneath the chin that extends up behind the ears, after giving the patient either local or general anesthesia. the skin will be loosened from the underlying muscles tissues and pulled back.

The muscles are then tightened using sutures and unwanted fatty deposits can be removed by liposuction or with the plastic surgeon’s scalpel. the neck skin is stretched up toward the chin and any extra sagging skin is removed and the incision is closed up. the result is a smoother, slimmer, younger looking head-torso connector

Patients who have undergone this procedure will experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort during the first few days after the plastic surgery. You will be advised to rest post-op and you may have a drain placed under your skin to collect fluid to reduce the time and pain of the healing process. the drain will be removed after one or two days.

The surgeon will also instruct you to wear a compression garment that will cut down on swelling after your plastic surgery. You will wear this around the clock for the first week and thereafter only at night until the wounds are all healed up.

Your post plastic surgery pain can be managed with medications prescribed by your cosmetic surgeon. While the entire recovery period will take longer, most people are able to return to work and normal activities about two weeks after the neck lift.

What Are the Risks?

The risks of neck surgery are minimal and complications are rare, as it is a very safe surgery, but there are a few potential risks involved in any surgery. first, these include the risk of infection in the incision. You can help prevent this problem by keeping the wound clean and not applying any makeup or other products over the incision. Another possible risk is an allergic reaction to the anesthesia or post-plastic surgery drugs.

Good Neck Lift Candidates

Those who are good candidate for a neck lift are those who are of generally good and stable health. Smokers are required to quit at least two weeks before the surgery in order eliminate potential problems with the healing process caused by nicotine.

Good candidates are also those who have realistic expectations of the surgical results. this will make all the difference in finding the most satisfaction from a neck lift from a trained and experienced plastic surgeon.

Washington DC Plastic Surgeon Says Cheek Lift Procedures Enhance Youthful Appearance – Healthcare Global

WASHINGTON, DC–(Marketwire – April 25, 2012) – Dr. Mark Richards, a plastic surgeon in Washington, DC, says the cheeks are a pivotal yet often overlooked focal point in facial structure. however, patients at his practice quickly become aware that the mid-face area is the key to a natural and attractive appearance. Dr. Richards says as patients have witnessed unattractive and pulled celebrity facelifts highlighted as undesirable, they have begun requesting a younger look that cannot be achieved through the traditional facelift, which only targets the lower areas of the face and neck. Backed by statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Dr. Richards says he has seen an increase in procedures such as cheek lifts in Washington, DC as more patients are educated about the benefits of repositioning the skin and sagging cheek structures.

According to the latest statistics from ASPS, cheek implant procedures increased by 47% in the past year to almost 12,000 performed by plastic surgeons in 2011. at his Washington, DC plastic surgery practice, Dr. Richards says cheek implant, cheek lift, and injections that rejuvenate the cheeks and mid-face have become popular choices for patients looking to restore a more youthful appearance. Dr. Richards states, “Sagging cheeks have the tendency to make people look prematurely tired and haggard. most patients desire to reflect the vibrancy and youth they feel on the inside through to their outward facial appearance.” Dr. Richards adds that a procedure such as a cheek lift can help patients achieve a look that exudes confidence and vitality, which is simply not obtainable any other way.

“Patients are becoming more aware of the importance of the mid-face or cheek area as the key to having a natural and attractive appearance. They do not often describe it that way, but they usually have a 'eureka moment' when they realize that cheek fat repositioning through a cheek lift surgery will restore the natural, youthful appearance they seek. This delays the need for a face lift in many cases,” says Dr. Richards.

Performed by creating two small incisions inside the mouth and two above the hairline, the cheek lift elevates the drooping fat and muscle tissue and repositions the cheeks to a higher, more youthful placement. Importantly, this procedure also corrects the tired appearing elongation of the lower eyelids by shortening the vertical height of the lower eyelid from lash line to cheek.

Dr. Richards says facial implants or injectable fillers can also help restore the fullness of younger looking cheeks for patients who are suffering from severe cheek volume deflation. He also says many patients have been requesting Sculptra® (an innovative treatment option that has increased in popularity by over 20% in the past year according to ASPS statistics) to help add long lasting volume to hollowed areas of the face. with results that can last up to two years or more, Dr. Richards feels Sculptra® is an effective, non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures in restoring collagen and deep soft tissue in the face.

“This discussion of the mid-face also opens the door to consideration of long lasting tissue stimulators such as Sculptra injections, which stimulate the face's own tissues to increase collagen production so as to 're-inflate' the sagging cheeks that make people look prematurely tired. In some patients, Sculptra can re-inflate the cheek tissues so that they can give a better result with a subsequent cheek lift,” says Dr. Richards.

Dr. Richards says advancements in modern medicine have revealed a host of new and better options for patients looking to feel more confident about their appearance. regardless of their aesthetic goals, he says cheek lifts and facial implants or injections are just a few of the many available procedures for helping patients improve their quality of life. Dr. Richards adds that the most important factor in achieving the proper results is choosing a board-certified and experienced plastic surgeon for one's procedure. He says consulting with a dedicated and personalized practice can offer patients the safety and security required for looking their best through cosmetic surgery.

Did Adele Get a Nose Job?

Adele nose job rumors have been running rampant online.

We don’t know if she’s gotten one or not, and Ashley Judd would be pissed that we’re even asking, but photos that suggest she may have had work done.

The 23-year-old singer may be quite comfortable in her own skin, but she may have also changed one of her features. We’re not judging, just saying.

Check out these Adele photos from 2012 and 2008 …

It could be that the British fan favorite simply lost weight, which clearly is the case over the past 3-4 years, and her nose looks more slender as a result.

Or not. some surgeons say the tip is more defined, which indicates reshaping the lower cartilage of the nose by reducing its width and repositioning it.

She’s made a name for herself on talent either way, and isn’t about to lose any fans regardless of whether she had work done. But it makes you wonder.

What do you think of Adele’s new look? do you think she got plastic surgery? Does Adele look better or worse? Does it even matter?

As we age, the effects of sun exposure, stress, environmental pollutants and even gravity can be seen in our faces. Wrinkles and deep creases form between the nose and mouth, the jaw line becomes slack and “jowly;” folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. Rhytidectomy, also known as a “face lift” won’t stop the hands of time but can turn them back by improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles repositioning tissues and re-draping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift or eyelid surgery.

During the procedure, fat is harvested from areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, thighs or knees. The fat is then processed in a centrifuge to remove extra liquid fat, blood and fluids. This leaves only 100% purified fat for injection. Injection areas may include lips, facial lines, or depressions. fat can also be harvested and used to fill large depressions on hips, there by creating a smoother line.

The results of this procedure are long lasting, and as it is your own fat, there is little risk for infection or rejection. Some of the cells will not survive the transfer, so subsequent injections may be necessary.

A forehead or brow lift is a surgical procedure done to minimize forehead creases and frown lines that create a chronically tired, sad or angry look. A brow lift will also help to significantly reduce or eliminate drooping of eyebrows and excessive hooding of the upper eyelids. Traditionally a brow lift is done through a long incision across the top of the head. in most cases, a plastic surgeon is able to use the endoscopic method where a special scope is used through several small incisions and an endotine device is placed to secure the lifted tissue in its new position.

Lip augmentation is performed for patients who desire fuller and plumper lips. it can also be employed to even out lips when either the upper or lower lip is thinner than the other. there are several options for lip augmentation including, Restylane, Juvederm or autogenous fat. Plastic surgeons are happy to consult with you as to your specific goals to determine which procedure is correct for you.

An otoplasty is the surgical procedure designed to set prominent ears closer to the head. it is most commonly done when ears appear to stick out farther than normal. This procedure is usually done on school age children, but is also done on adults who have suffered with this since childhood. Other congenital ear abnormalities or trauma-induced problems may also be corrected with this procedure.

A rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure performed to reshape the nose. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip, remove bumps or dips and change the shape of the bridge, correct the size of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and upper lip. A rhinoplasty may also be done to correct a birth defect or injury. Breathing problems will be corrected by the septoplasty. This portion of the procedure may be covered by your insurance, however, the cosmetic portion will not be.
