Breast augmentation trends around the world

Breast implant procedures are one of the most popular types of plastic surgery in the U.S., and America leads the way in terms of other countries when it comes to augmentation. that being said, breast implants are becoming more popular in many other countries, as more people around the world realize the benefits of the surgery.

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), breast augmentation is the second most popular procedure in the world, behind liposuction. in 2010, the most recent year international data is available, the group estimates more than 1.5 million breast implant procedures were performed worldwide.

While a significant portion of these procedures were done in the U.S., America isn't as dominant as one might assume when it comes to the procedure. Plastic surgeons in the U.S. performed more than 330,000 breast augmentations in 2010, or approximately 22 percent of the world total.

America hasn't always topped the list. in 2009, China was the most popular country for breast augmentation in the world, but the numbers fell off sharply in 2010 – the country only ranked fifth, performing about 55,000 procedures.

Brazil and the U.S. are neck-and-neck in terms of total plastic surgeries performed, as the South American country has embraced cosmetic surgery in a big way. in terms of other procedures, Brazil beats the U.S. in areas like liposuction and nose jobs. when it comes to breast implants, however, Brazil is slightly behind, with 250,000 surgeries accounting for about 16 percent of the world total.

According to BusinessToday, one country that could soon see a surge in the number of breast implants is India, which was ranked seventh overall in the 2010 study. the surgery appears to be quite popular among young girls in the country, and India has no shortage of plastic surgeons to perform the augmentations.

India is a prime example of the way societal attitudes can affect the number of breast augmentations. For many young girls in India, there is a strong desire to be slim. However, plastic surgeons say that a poor diet can ultimately result in small breasts, which leads to an increase in plastic surgery.

The women who opt for breast augmentation in India often do so for different reasons than girls in America. For example, while a "busty" look is popular in the U.S., Indian women tend to want more moderate breast increases.

“Human Barbie” Kicked Off Anderson Cooper’s Talk Show

Sarah Burge, 51, famous in England as “The Human Barbie,” already shocked the world by admitting that she had spent $1,000,000 on plastic surgery to modify herself to look like a Barbie doll. After a number of equally staggering antics, including teaching her 8-year-old daughter Poppy to dance on a pole and giving her a $12,000 voucher for Botox as well as a number of other such sums for unnecessary surgeries, it seems that even polite, Anderson  “Silver Fox” Cooper had enough of her and booted her off his talk show on Tuesday.

During the show, Cooper asked Burge to explain why she would give her daughter money just so that she wouldn’t sweat on stage during beauty pageants. Burge shot back that she would rather her daughter get Botox under her supervision than go to “some voodoo witch doctor.”

After a second of stunned silence, Cooper told Burge: “I really don’t have anything more to say to you…I really don’t want to talk to you anymore.” Burge (along with her horridly tight green dress) promptly left the stage. “I got the feeling this was just about the publicity,” Cooper said after the show, but reassured the audience that he did not intend to be rude to her and wishes her the best.

With reality shows such as Dance Moms and Toddlers in Tiaras showcasing mothers exploiting their small children while sporting designer clothes and new body parts, it is a wonder that this hasn’t come to the attention of Child Services. The world can only hope that Poppy in all of her glitz and glory doesn’t grow up to be on what would probably be the thirteenth season of Teen Mom.

Three years ago, a girl of 15 years from England decided to resort to plastic surgery to get breast implants for her next birthday. As expected, the story quickly was spread around the world, being on the front page of newspapers. since then, media reports continued to speculate that plastic surgery is a new fashionable option for any teenager who has visible physical flaws.

Thus, the number of adolescent patients has increased significantly lately. Another reason why teens choose this major solution is the example that they get in the house: they grew up with parents who have turned to plastic surgery and thus they have the opportunity to see and hear more about this procedure.

Everywhere around us we see people with a perfect body, we hear celebrities that tried this kind of procedures to enhance their femininity, and then you look in the mirror and start to hate your physical appearance. That’s when it crosses your mind that all this can disappear as if by magic, using the surgeon’s knife.

But before taking this decision seriously, we must carefully analyze the advantages and disadvantages of plastic surgery. we mustn’t forget that everything consists in cutting your body, and these procedure often entails side effects or major risks that are better to be known beforehand.

If you decided for an aesthetic surgery, another important factor to consider is the choice of the surgeon. It is necessary to get information regarding who is the best specialist in your area and if you can trust him. after you’ve made the choice, it would be ideal to have a conversation in which you’ll ask all the details of the surgery, such as risks, side effects, costs and so on.

One of the most popular plastic surgery, both among women and men, is rhinoplasty, ie nose job. a beautiful nose is essential for the beauty of someone’s face, but it is also the one that gives personality. before you make this step, it is important to know that this physical imperfection can be dimmed with makeup tricks and a proper haircut. Another plastic surgery practiced by many girls is the breast augmentation. if you want to have bigger breasts and you already are in the adulthood stage, it is good to know that breast prostheses are filled with silicone or saline implants. There are numerous speculations concerning breast cancer after breast implants, but between these two it hasn’t been yet established any connection. The price of such intervention is about 3000 euro and lasts 1-3 hours.

Liposuction is one of the easiest solutions to get rid of unwanted fat and endless months of diet and sports. The intervention consists of vacuuming fat, but there is the risk of regain the lost pounds after surgery. The price is 800 euros per area, with not very visible scars and the final results appear after 2-3 months. Anesthesia is general and the operation takes approx. 2 hours for each area.

Breast Implants. Is bigger always better?

Have you ever noticed Americans love big.  we think that bigger is always better.  big cars, big houses, supersize portions of food.  However, is bigger always better when it comes to breast implants?

I answered this question just recently from a patient that came in to see Brian Vassar Heil, MD FACS for a breast augmentation consult.  she was AA all her life.  she remembers in college always wearing padded bras and being very self conscious about her body image.  now at 32 years old, she is successful in the business world, but still feels when she looks in the mirror there is a young girl looking back at her.

She is now going to undergo a Pittsburgh breast augmentation with Doctor Heil.  now the exciting part – what size should I go?  Well, she felt the cost is the same regardless if she decided to get 500 cc silicone implants instead of 350cc silicone implants.  Bigger is always better, right?  This was going to be her first and last time to get the body she always dreamed.

Well, this is what I told her –

Breast implants come in many varieties, including:Implant surface: smooth or texturedImplant shape: round or shapedImplant filler:  silicone or salineImplant profile:  how far the implant protrudes

The correct size of an implant is determined not by the size, A, B, C, D etc.  Instead, implants are measured in cc’s.  the cc’s tells you the number of grams the implant weighs.  the heavier the implant the more it will weight and overtime you may droop.  the weight of the implant may also cause back pain and neck pain if you are a small framed women.  This is why so many women get lifts and reductions.  do not consider the size implants by comparison of your friends or celebrities; you don’t know where they started.  Their body shape, chest size, and breast size are not exactly yours.  Computer simulation is not good either.  Pictures are good to bring into your consult because it is helpful to get an understanding of your thoughts about size and proportion, but pictures are a poor way to decide on implant size.

The whole point of a breast augmentation is the final result.  So think about PROPORTION, using your OWN body to demonstrate.  you don’t necessary want them to look unnatural, round or fake.  if you think you want large, try wearing them for a while, try exercising, or buttoning up your favorite white blouse.  This is just advice from one girlfriend to another.  we do see many oversized implants coming into our Cranberry and Upper St. Clair office.  the have droopiness, back pain, and they want to DOWNSIZE.  So take a long-term view not just for the here and now.  besides, in Pittsburgh, we don’t see many FAKE breasted women.  if you wish to look a little fuller on those “special nights”  just wear a great push up bra.  go for pretty and natural.  GO for Medium size.  Isn’t more fun to keep people guessing?  how does she look so good????????  now that turns heads!

Despite the risks, many vacationers are happy to have their plastic surgery performed in a foreign destination, returning home with a tan as well as a new appearance.

It’s a good week for … Ryan Murphy

Given his obvious fondness for the dark and twisted, it’s ironic that writer-producer Ryan Murphy’s biggest hit to date has been the sickly-sweet issue machine that Glee (Thu, 9pm, Sky1) often finds itself turning into. having returned last week from an early season break, this week it’s tackling the big stuff, as lumbering autotuned man-jock Finn and serial showtune abuser Rachel decide to go all the Way. In among all the Newsround Special-isms, it’s easy to forget that the appeal of Glee in the first place wasn’t just soft-rock anthems sung by improbably middle-aged teenagers but the barbed villainy of Sue Sylvester, who brought the acid with lines like, “I just prefer to think of the homeless as ‘outdoorsy’.”

Murphy’s previous TV outings set the scene for this interest in black humour and camp. his teen show Popular, which briefly appeared on Channel 5 before disappearing into the ether, inhabited a John Waters-y world, but it was drama Nip/Tuck (Mon, 3.10am, FX) that took it to a more grown-up place. Suspended between competitive machismo and bromance, plastic surgeons Christian Troy and Sean McNamara negotiated six seasons of guts, gore and a particularly memorable self-administered mastectomy with an electric turkey trimmer.

But it’s Murphy’s new series, the brilliantly macabre American Horror Story (Mon, 10pm, FX) that feels like the apex of all of this, as gynaecologists, high school and a heightened sense of old Hollywood glamour come together for a frankly bonkers haunted house tale. A couple in the present day move to LA to a bargain mansion to save their marriage, only to find that their dream home is cheap for an evil reason. There are nods to the Shining, a handful of gruesome murders per episode and an exquisitely awful nosy neighbour, played by Jessica Lange. In the States it’s had a ratings boost every week, making it an unlikely hit, so there’s a sliver of optimism for those who live in hope that the Glee cast will one day stop Believin’.
